My Dearest and
Truest Friend ~ Lissy

Years cannot measure the bond
of friendship that we share
The timeless devotion of closeness,
the tender loving care.

A time when we both were young
we were just sixteen
The happy carefree days of youth
they have long since been.

We developed a special bond,
we related to each other
Overcoming our shyness
we got on well together.

Becoming inseparable friends
our bond of friendship grew
Sharing secrets, thoughts and dreams
between me and you.

We stayed up late and talked all night
sharing secret dreams
Of loves we had huge crushes on ~
the naiveté of our teens.

But time went on and we grew up
and so we drifted apart
But you were always my one true friend,
close within my heart.

We stayed in touch on and off
you had a new best friend
And so we went about our lives ~
why did our friendship end?

Then on the day of my wedding
you were by my side
As my Maid of Honour and friend,
and me the blushing bride.

But many years came between us
and we lost touch once again
But how I wish you were there for me
when my marriage came to an end.

My life then changed and I moved away
I wondered where you'd gone
We were once so close, why did that change,
what did we do wrong?

As years went by I often thought
of how we were best friends
We were always so inseparable
and I wished we were again.

Then during a visit with my family
I decided to get in touch with you
What a lovely surprise to see you, Lissy
I really have missed you!

After many years of lost contact
though I still live miles away
Thanks to technology of the Internet
we now talk almost every day!

So much has happened in our lives
and things we have gone through
To bring our friendship up to speed
that is so long overdue.

Now the closeness we once shared
of friendship with each other
Will always remain close in our hearts ~
best of friends forever!

"I think the words say it all in this poem ~ Lissy (Melissa) and I met back in 1988
and became best friends. We had so much fun together, and the memories will
always be special. I have had some special friends in my life, but none has ever
been as special as Lissy. We knew each other and we could relate to each other.
We had the best of times!! And together, we were always known as Chrissy and Lissy!
Hugs to you, Lis, my dearest and truest friend."
