Memories

The memories that belong to me
were destroyed by you
When you said you loved me
I had thought those words were true.

The memories that stay in my mind

that thought you never cared
Cloud over all the memories
of the fun times we shared.

The memories of our smiles and laughter
are clouded by the tears
Pain and hurt and betrayal;
vivid are the fears.

The memories that remain with me
even though we're not together
Still continue to hurt inside, though
I know it won't forever.

And although the memories are still vivid
of the pain that I went through
I just want to get on with my life
and forget about you.

The memories of the hurt and pain of a violent marriage.
