The Value of a Friendship
God gave to me a special gift
that is more precious than
gold
And handed it to me wrapped
in love
more beautiful to behold ~
He sent this gift on angel's
wings
and looked down on me then,
And with a smile He watched
as I
found a dear and trusted friend.
On the other side of the world
someone I'd never met
He gave to me your friendship,
one I would never forget ~
The priceless gift before
me
something that I treasure
For its value is far greater
than money could ever measure.
Through my poetic diary
you had signed my guestbook
And I was touched by your
kindness
that I had to take a look,
At the website of the person
who had been so kind to me
With words of appreciation
for the gift of my poetry.
I enjoyed my visit to your
site
and I told you so
And before long we were exchanging
emails to and fro ~
Through the technology of
the Internet
we became friends,
And I began to look forward
to the emails that you'd send.
Years have gone by since that
time
and still we keep in touch
We have come to value the
friendship
that we appreciate so much
~
Though we have never met
you have still been there
To offer words of comfort
and show how much you care.
My husband and I appreciate
the thoughtful things you
do
But it's the special things
that make
this friendship one so true
~
You never ask for anything
or expect in return
You just offer kindness,
that's one thing we have learned.
In times when I have needed
someone to listen to me,
To let me vent frustration
or my hurt so angrily ~
You are always there to listen
offering words of care
Giving advice and wisdom,
showing you are "there".
But in the time we have known
each other
I hope I can give back to
you
All that you have given
in the thoughtful things you
do ~
For I have come to value this
friendship
although we have never met,
As we keep in touch with emails
via the Internet.
God gave to me a special gift
when He gave to me a friend
For its value is much greater
and its kindness never ends
~
And so I send on angel's wings
right back to you again,
A valuable commodity,
the gift of a true friend.

"I wrote this poem about a
friend I met through my website a couple of years back now, whose friendship
I have come to value. He is always there to offer encouragement,
to both myself and my husband, to show kindness, and true friendship.
And if we were to lose touch tomorrow, his friendship and kindness would
always be one I will never forget.
Thank you, friend ~ you know
who you are."
