I once wrote about
broken hands and hearts
Cursing and spitting
and tearing apart
The one that they love
and chose to respect,
Yet with the same breath
speak words of regret.

The impact of words
a powerful thing
Causing such pain
and heartache within ~
When words of love
not spoken in haste
Should be cherished and honoured
and not merely a waste.

Two hearts that are beating
two souls together
A promise of love
to last forever ~
When some kind of shadow
passes the door
Of the hearts that now shut out
and choose to ignore.

Hearts that lay broken
within the hands
Refusing to listen
or understand ~
Turning away
from the love that they share
To hear a whisper
that someone else cares.

All of a sudden
there lay between
This marriage of hearts
and broken dreams ~
A niggle, a whisper,
a word in the ear
Forever reminding
what one always fears.

I wish he would listen
when I need to talk
Not just to my voice
but beside me to walk ~
A joining of hands
together in heart
We vowed to forever
we never would part.

How hard is this now
that I'm caught up in
Something that tears
at our souls within ~
Just once I would like
to be put first,
For I am his wife
for better for worse.

I've never felt as lonely
as I do today
Like though he's beside me
but he's gone away ~
Though he's here in body
he has disappeared,
So where does that leave me
now that he's not here?

A wife is wife
as he'd chosen me
To live forever
for eternity ~
But what about now
as I wonder does he
Consider our marriage,
and still love me?

Hearts that are broken
within the hands
Praying for love
to understand ~
A choice that is made
to love and respect
A marriage forever
let us never forget.

"This is a sad and personal poem about the intrusion that comes into a marriage, whatever the form may be.   And alas, it is unfortunate to note that the interference is welcome on one's part while the other sits confused, hurt and alone.   The promises that were once made together, for better for worse forever, somehow doesn't seem as important to the other anymore....   Anyone who has experienced this kind of intrusion or pain within their marriage can understand the depth of these words.   The poem ends with the reminder to ALL involved, both the husband and whoever or whatever else, that this is a marriage, it is sacred and NOTHING shall come between!   A reminder for all to remember, accept and respect the sanctity and the marriage."
