Discarded Petals

As days grow warmer
The young men go to pick their Spring flowers
So delicate, they are in Dresden beauty
So fragile, many do not last the test of time
For even as Summer nears
Fewer flowers are found in a young man's arms
To those fortunate to hold on
Must cherish every petal
For Fall and uneasy winds come
Many petals give way to the cold
It is the rare man
To find the perfect rose
That even as the snow begins to blow and
Winter confines and brings stress upon the earth
The love he has found stays true and fresh as the Spring
And still yet grows by the warmth of the fire
Finds he has more than a flower
But the true love in his life
As I still search among the discarded petals
For my Spring flower
