Legacy
By Isabelitta

I lay upon my ancestor's home
Resting lazily upon the sunken stones
Taking in the echo of her life
Through my bloods and bones
Living her legacy, a deafening silence
By means of my minds eyes
She was happiest alone
Mistress of her own domain
Bowing to none, the equal of Kings
Then brought to ruin by small minds
Who could not understand why she hated chains
She sees me now, adrift, and shakes her head
Orders me to free myself, my links were not society's
Only I forged them
She threatens a haunting should I not obey
Bowing low to her former dwelling
My forehead scraping the moistened ground
I left the prison and took her freedom
