In the Medieval period, numerous farmsteads were found
around Wied Qirda. Few of these remain today, and their existence
can only be appreciated through notarial deeds. The most tangible
evidence that remains today to testify to the medieval use of this valley
is a cave called Ghar Hanzir (literally translated as 'The Cave of the
Pig'). Named after the valley into which the cave opens, this cave
was adopted as a troglodytic chapel at an unknown date. The sides
of the cave were transformed by vertical depressions to form rib-like columns.
On these a number of crosses have been carved, many of which are still
visible today .
