Let me start by defining what I think a bad review is. First, it is usually darn too short. Few sentences perhaps? Less than 400 words? Next, it is overly loaded with complements and no critique nor suggestions. It's just a big load of presents. Why then, do website owners send their sites to these WPRs? I've seen tons of WPRs that have over 1000s of reviews done in this style. "Oh, your layout is good. 100 points." "Wow! You can write! 1000 points." I've, after a long time of thought, drew up few possible reasons for this.
Thou who love complements
I admit. It is great to get complements, even if they don't really mean anything. A human being can't survive without love and complements. It's our nature. We get a natural high when we read that we have done something good for a change. It's like a drug effect. When you get addicted to that high, you want more and more. So you go out into the WPR community to sort out these types of WPRs who give you sugar and candy. Once or twice, you accidentally stumble onto a WPR that actually gives out advice. Then it is sort of like a long time smoker running into a "don't smoke" message preaching cheese. You either accept that message and finally get back on track, or you, like many people who are addicted to drugs, can't forget the high you get from crappy reviews. That's possible reason #1 on why people submit to bad WPRs.
Thou who love to laugh
I sometimes get the urge, though I admit... it isn't a good idea ^_^;;, to submit to these long running bad WPRs to get the expected review and well... er laugh at it. It might be just me, but I get amused by these little things. If it was a review site that just started out, I wouldn't be laughing. I'd probably help them. However, if I'm dealing with a WPR that has been online for God-only-knows-how-long, then yeah. I laugh. Another human instinct is that we laugh at people we "think" are worse than we are. Yes... yes... that's a bad thing... but *shrug* it's funny. I can't help it.
Thou who love to bash
Some people like submitting to these sites because they like to take the "we are more superior" idea a little bit further. They submit to these sites, waiting for them to give a horrific review. When the owner finally gets the review, they spring up at the reviewer and start attacking them. Yelling at them and telling that the review is crap and finally telling these reviewers the hard cold truth. These people get natural highs by bashing, letting their anger out at these bad reviewers, and in conclusion, making the reviewers wake up, or whine home after closing the WPR.
Thou who art bored
The last types of people are those who are just bored. They have nothing to do, so they just go around in a site like Reviewing Delight, submitting to every single site in the list. ^_^;; Strange but true... Human boredom is a very powerful thing.
