On January 31, 2002, Americans were flying flags, singing God Bless America, swearing "We Will Never Forget" and feeling Patriotic. On January 31, 2002, one of the tallest trees in the forest fell but no one heard the sound. On January 31, 2002, America's greatest living Air Ace died quietly without any notice by America. Colonel Francis S. Gabreski was the top American Air Ace in the European Theater of Operations with 28 enemy fighters destroyed in aerial combat plus three (3) on the ground. Colonel Gabreski also shot down 6.5 fighters in the Korean War. Colonel Francis S. Gabreski was a prisoner of war for 10 months in Stalag Luft 1. Colonel Gabreski was awarded thirteen Distinguished Flying Crosses. Ten for service during World War II, and three for service during the Korean War. Colonel Gabreski was also awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for service during World War II. There has been no Presidential acknowledge of Colonel Gabreski's death. There has been no Congressional acknowledge of Colonel Gabreski's death. Fox News has not acknowledge Colonel Gabreski's death.
