Review

This book is not only a hilarious satire of modern white-dominated, male-dominated American (and western) society, it is also a powerful political pamphlet. It is a call to arms against stupidity, ignorance and indolence, a moving appeal to save America fro becoming a frightening parody of Orwell's 1984. Even in a country with a single ruling party (the Democrat-Republicans), Moore reminds us that political dissent is still possible, by voting for Ralph Nader's greens, for example. Moore takes a perverse pleasure in alternatively making us laugh and cry, amusing us with the illiteracy of "president" Bush (who cheated his way into power), only to remind us that this fool controls the most devastating arsenal the world has ever known. Moore has the talent to combine the near-scatological with the politically astute, and to get away with a coherent book. Rupert Murdoch's media empire tried to censor this book in the United States, using the 11th of September 2001 attacks as a pretext to stifle dissenting voices which could expose the incestuous relationships of big business with the American political leadership. The Penguin version was printed in Britain, which still retains some amount of freedom of expression, despite years of submission toTony Blair, a "mini-me" to Bush's "Dr Evil". However, there were details that even the British were unwilling to print, but which can fortunately be found on Michael Moore's website: www.michaelmoore.com.
