ท่านเคยรู้สึกอึดอัดบ้างหรือไม่ครับในเวลาที่ต้องการจะพูดคำหรือสำนวนบางอย่างที่มีใช้ในภาษาไทย แต่เวลาจะพูดเป็นภาษาอังกฤษแล้วไม่รู้ว่าจะใช้คำว่าอะไรดี หรือนึกไม่ออก  เพจนี้อาจช่วยท่านได้ครับ

ต้องการจะพูดว่า.....

ก่อน(กำหนด)เวลา  =  ahead of time  (= before an appointed time)
    "TG900 landed ahead of time."
    "เที่ยวบินทีจี900 ลงก่อนกำหนดเวลา"

ขี้หลงขี้ลืม  =  absent-minded  (= forgetful)
    "Her grandfather is an absent-minded person."
     "คุณตาของเธอเป็นคนขี้หลงขี้ลืม"

แข่งกับเวลา  =  against time or against the clock  (= with a definite limit of time)
    "I'm working against time."
     "ผมกำลังทำงานแข่งกับเวลาอยู่ครับ"

ตามเคย  =  as usual  (= as always)
    "The boss is right as usual."
     "นายก็ถูกตามเคยแหละ"

เป็นหนี้บุญคุณ  =  be obliged to one  (= be in someone's debt, be very thankful to one)
    "I am vey much obliged to you for your assistance."
    "ผมเป็นหนี้บุญคุณคุณนะครับที่ได้ให้ความอนุเคราะห์"

รู้ทัน  =  be on to  (= be undeceived, understand one's real motives)
  "Somsak is on to you because you have always played tricks on him."
     "สมศักดิ์รู้ทันคุณซะแล้ว เพราะคุณชอบเล่นลูกไม้กับเขาอยู่เรื่อย"

ลื่นเหมือนปลาไหล   =  as slippery as an eel  (= very unreliable)
    "Jack always tells a lie, so he's as slippery as an eel."
    "แจ๊คชอบพูดปดอยู่เรื่อย เค้าลื่นเหมือนปลาไหลเลย"

ว่ากันที่จริง  =  after all (= despite earlier views, nevertheless, in the end)
    "After all, I'm still assure of your sincerity."
    "ว่ากันที่จริง ผมก็ยังมั่นใจในความจริงใจของคุณนะ"

เวลาขาดแคลน  =  a rainy day  (= a time when one's really needs money)
    "Do save some money for a rainy day."
    "เก็บเงินไว้บ้าง เผื่อไว้ยามขาดแคลนไง.

หูผึ่ง  =  be all ears  (=be very anxious to hear)
    "When I heard her chat about her love story, I was all ears."
     "เมื่อผมได้ยินเธอคุยเรื่องราวความรักของเธอ ผมก็หูผึ่งเลย"

เหนือสิ่งอื่นใด  =  above all
    "Above all, you guys must be loyal to our country."
    "เหนือสิ่งอื่นใด พวกเราต้องซื่อสัตย์ต่อประเทศของเรา"

ลอยนวล  =  at large
    "The prisoner who escaped from the jail is still at large."
    "นักโทษที่หลบหนีออกจากคุกยังคงลอยนวล"

แต่เพียงในนาม  =  nominal (in name or form but usually not in reality)
    "The old man is only the nominal head of the business; his daughter
     makes all the decisions"
    "เค้าเป็นเจ้าของธุรกิจนี้แต่เพียงในนามเท่านั้น  ลูกสาวของเค้าเป็นผู้มีอำนาจตัดสินใจทั้งหมด"

ไม่ช้าก็เร็ว   =   sooner or later, eventually, at some time
    "Sooner or later you will  have to face the fact."
    "ไม่ช้าก็เร็ว คุณก็จะต้องเผชิญหน้ากับความจริง"

อันหลัง  =  latter
    "Between captain and major, the latter is the higher rank."

จนมุม  = at bay  (= trapped, endangered ; in difficulties)
    "The police kept the thief at bay."

รวมเป็นน้ำหนึ่งใจเดียวกัน  = at one   (= united, in agreement ; in accord or unity)
    "After long discussion, we were at one in our conclusion."

ถูกจับคาหนังคาเขา  =  be caught red handed (= be caught in the act of doing some deceiful thing)
    "The robber was caught red handed by the landlady."

ถังแตก  =  be short (= lacking in money)
    "I cant' belief myself I am short."

นินทา, พูดลับหลัง  =  behind one's back  (=gossip)
    "Please don't talk about me behind my back."

มีฐานะดีขึ้น  = better off (= in a better condition ; richer)
    "I wish you will be better off soon."

ฟกช้ำดำเขียว  =  black and blue (=badly bruise, discolored)
    "A cruel father hit his son black and blue."

เดือดเป็นฟืนเป็นไฟ, โกรธสุดขีด  =  blow one's top (= become very angry)
    "Her mother blew her top when her daughter told a lie again and again."
