I was 17 years old. I met these 3 girls at a hotel. They were there with families for their fathers army platoon get together. I met them on a Friday night. Hung out with this one girl Friday night and all day Saturday. Sat night we were hanging out together and I started liking one of the other girls. Well Sunday, the day they were leaving I was trying to find the one I spent the weekend with when I found the other one. She invited me into her room. And. (not what you're thinking:) she was playing her guitar for me. She said it was nice meeting me and kissed me on my cheek and I like totally broke down. Thinking that I would never see this girl again I just lost it. Anyway, she left (I never did say goodbye to the first one.) And I had taken her address. I wrote her. She wrote back. We wrote like 20 times in the first 2 weeks. She sent her phone number and I called a few times. This was in the end of July. She lived in Mansfield Ohio. only one state away :) Well I got this crazy idea. I started selling some stuff I had like my lava light and a strobe light and records and I sold my CB radio. I scraped together 200 bucks. She lived right next to a dive motel and said I could get a room for 16 bucks a night :) And greyhound round trip was 80. So you can see where this is going. Labor day weekend I was on a bus for 13 hours heading to Ohio. My father dropped me off at the bus station at 6am and said have fun. Anyway I should mention that she was 15 years old. soon to be 16 (in 3 months) I was turning 18 on labor day Monday. Well The 5 day weekend was strange to say the least. I was able to buy beer. We got along OK. But she was the oldest of her friends and I was around these kids . I remember thinking I'm too old for this. Her parents thought I was crazy although they let me in the house. I remember thinking that if this was what it was like to be grown up I was staying a kid. The whole weekend went by and I spent a crowded trip on a bus back and got into the city at 5am and it took me 2 hours local bus time to get back home. We wrote and talked for 2 months more then lost touch. When I moved in with my now ex wife when I was 19 she threw out most of the letters I saved from my teen dating years :( But for some reason I have never been able to forget her phone number! Back in 93 I separated from the ex, one day 4 months later I was driving in the car and this song came on that was the big hit back then when I was 17/18 It was drivers seat from snif n the tears. I got this crazy idea to call the girl from Ohio. BTW the math shows at this point was 13 years later :) I called the number and her mother answered. It was now a Motel. I told her I had a message for Maureen. Gave her an 800 number to call me at work. 3 days later she didn't call so I called her mother back and explained who I was. She actually remembered me. Her mother gave me her work number :) So I called. we had a 20 minute talk. Here she had saved most of my mail and took it out when she found out I called the first time which brought up some questions from her husband (of only 7 months). She said she had a 7 year old kid and she had changed quite a bit but she still had the beautiful voice I remembered. She said nobody had ever done anything crazy for her like I did after that. She was supposed to send a picture of her and her son but she never did. I didn't pursue it. I wondered what it must be like to hear from someone after 13 years? BTW that was 5 years ago that I did this. So in 1998 it's been like 18 years now :) I wonder if I will ever try and contact her again. I wonder if she will ever see this page. pong2kong@oocities.com
