How to copy a CD
to make another CD (if
you have Nero CD-Burning software – NOTE: it is legal to burn your own CDs but it is
NOT legal to sell or distribute these CDs)
- Click
on ‘start’, ‘programs’, ‘Ahead Nero’, ‘Nero – Burning ROM’ or on the NERO BURNING ROM icon if there is one on your
desktop
- make
sure COPY CD is selected
- click
on NEXT
- make
sure source drive is “D” (or whatever
letter that your computer has assigned to your CD-ROM drive) & that an
original CD is in that drive (this really only
applies to people who have two CD-ROM drives on their computer)
- click
on NEXT
- make
sure BURN is selected
- click
on BURN, wait
- when
the computer is ready it will ask for a blank recordable CD
- put
the blank recordable CD in the drive
- wait
until it’s finished (either click the ‘X’
at the top right to close the Nero window or go to ‘file’ and choose ‘exit’ or ‘close’
- if you are asked if you want to ‘save’, choose ‘no’
- if you are asked if you want to ‘discard’ say ‘yes’
How to find
programs and music on the Internet using Kazaa (Kazaa is a file sharing program where you can
search for music or programs off of other people’s computers – be sure to use a
virus scan before installing any program or music file to your computer)
First download Kazaa to your
computer (this only needs to be done ONCE)
- go to http://www.kazaa.com
- click
on ‘download now’ (big white letters at the
top, towards the right)
- click
on ‘Download V2.1’ (on the right side)
- wait
- click
on ‘download now’ free – left hand side
- click
on ‘open’
- wait
- click
on ‘next’
- wait
- takes
anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes, depending on connection speed and how busy
the site may be
when it’s finished downloading you
will need to install the Kazaa download (this only needs to be done ONCE)
- to
install click on ‘next’, click on the white
box where it says ‘I agree’, click on ‘next’
- click
on ‘I agree…’ again and ‘next’ again
- click
on ‘next’, click on ‘Add an icon to the desktop’ and make sure there are no check
marks in the other boxes
- click
on ‘next’ and ‘next’
- wait
- click
on ‘finish’
when it’s finished installing you
will need to setup Kazaa (this only needs to be done ONCE)
- close
out all windows and get down to your desktop
- there
are several icons on there relating to Kazaa – delete Kazaa Shop and Kazaa
Promotions – leave Kazaa Media Desktop
and My Shared Folder alone
- double
click the Kazaa Media Desktop icon that’s
on your desktop
- enter
a user name, enter your email address, select your country, make a choice if you want to subscribe to their newsletter, uncheck Launch Kazaa Media Desktop Automatically
- click apply and then OK
- click
on ‘cancel’ when you see the window that asks if you want Kazaa to search
for files on your computer
now you’re ready to begin using
Kazaa to search for music on the Internet
- double click the Kazaa
Media Desktop icon that’s on your
desktop again to open Kazaa
- look at the top menu bar – you’ll be using two
items more than any others
- the magnifying glass that has
the word ‘search’ at the right
- the green and blue arrow icon that has the word ‘traffic’ at
the right
- click
on the magnifying glass
- click
in the white box and enter either an artist, a software program that
you’re looking for, or the title of a song or album
- click
on one of the circles beneath this box – audio
and software will the two you’ll use most
often
- if
you’ve chosen audio you’ll be automatically forced to make another choice
- artist or title
- click
on ‘search now’ (anytime you want to make a
different choice click on the ‘back’ link right below the ‘search now’ box
- wait
while Kazaa is searching through other computers for what you’ve asked for
- when
the list pops up on the right side of the screen, double click on any of
the ones that you want
- next
click on the ‘traffic’ icon (blue and green arrows) to see the progress of the
download – this will show that other sources are needed or that
you’re in a line (or qued), or waiting for a connection – words are listed at the top of this window
i.e. title, User, Progress, Status, etc. - move
the black lines between each word to see the entire line of print
below each category – i.e. you may only be able to see the words ‘More s…’
- when
you see the word complete next to any item
that means it’s finished and on your computer
- TIPS:
- go to the word ‘action’ in the
menu bar and choose ‘clear downloaded and
erroneous’ to clear your list of choices at anytime
- you can click on the ‘search’
(magnifying glass) to go back and double click on other choices to begin
a new download or to search for something new
- when downloads begin sometimes they take too long - right click on the words beneath the status bar
and choose ‘find more sources’
- when
you see ‘complete’ it’s finished and you’ll find it on your desktop in the
My Shared Folder file folder - and you need
to close your Kazaa window and double click on this folder to see it’s
contents
- Find
the song you’ve downloaded in this file folder and double click on it and
it should play automatically – maybe on RealPlayer,
but there are other music programs that will take over and play songs on
your computer
How to copy music
from the computer to make a music CD only
use blank CDR (CD recordable) not CDRW (cd recordable-writable)
- Click
on ‘start’, ‘programs’, ‘Ahead Nero’, ‘Nero – Burning ROM’ or on the NERO BURNING ROM icon if there is one on your
desktop
- make
sure Compile a new CD is selected
- click
on NEXT, click on Audio CD, click on NEXT
- click on FINISH
- a window pops up – on the left is Audio1 on the left and File Browser on the
right (file browser is divided into two windows)
- File Browser are files that are on your computer
- you
will move files that are on your computer into the Audio1 window so you can make (burn) a CD
- click once on the
‘desktop’ icon in the left window of the File Browser – we are
going to expand these file folders to find the music files that were
downloaded to the computer:
- click once on the + (plus sign) in front of ‘My Computer’
- click once on the plus sign in front of ‘C Drive’
- click once on the plus sign in front of ‘Program Files’
- click once on the plus sign in front of ‘Kazaa’
- click once on ‘My
Shared Folder’ – the song(s) you’ve
downloaded will appear in the right window
- drag these song(s) one by one into the Audio1 window on the
left – you will have a slight delay as they’re copied into this window
- when
it’s finished - click on the 8th icon from the right at the top
– it’s the “Opens the Write-CD -Dialog’
icon
- insert
a blank recordable CD - make sure the circle in front of ‘BURN’ is selected, click on ‘Burn’
- wait
- when
it’s finished, click OK, then discard, go to file
and click on exit and say no to save changes
