Pontiac Club de Mer

This true sports car had not only a tall tail fin resembling a shark but a front end that looked like a shark’s mouth, slightly open. It had two individual curved windshields, or windscreens, and was designed both as an all-around sports car or for competition racing. The Club de Mer used hand-formed aluminum body panels with highly sculptured rounded contours. The car was long and low It stretched 18O inches and stood only 38.4 inches high. Side trim was minimal, consisting of three bright metal stars behind the front wheel openings and three chrome strips highlighting the wind splits molded into the door The hood swept all the way down the nose, along with two wide chrome strips. The transmission was mounted just aft at the passenger compartment to insure proper weight distribution. One at the car's most interesting features was the unique front end design, with no headlights visible. Headlights were located in the back of the nose section. When the lights were turned on, the entire section revolved to expose the headlamps in proper driving position. All controls were mounted either in the center armrest or at the side rest in the driver's door.
