Chapter 13

When JC came to the party later, he had the relieved face of a man who's life has just been set in the right path. Justin noticed him come in, and went straight to him to ask what had happened.

"So? I take it you did talk to her?"

"Yeah." JC reached for one of the refreshments and took a sip. "We talked."

"And?" Justin asked, eager to know what had happened.

"My, aren't you nosey tonight," JC said with a laugh, then he shrugged, "we talked... she's pregnant you know," He raised an eyebrow when Justin nodded.

"Um, so where is she?"

"She's with Brian." JC answered, "she didn't want to make it look like she was ditching a Backstreet Boy for a member of N Sync." He motioned behind Justin to where Mikayla was standing. She felt their glances and turned to look at them and smiled at JC, her smile radiating all the love she felt.

Justin turned back to JC, who was grinning at her with fondness as he raised his glass in a silent salute towards her. "I think that it's true what they say, pregnant women really do glow." JC said, keeping his eyes on Mikayla after she had turned her attention back to what something Kevin said.

"Man, you with a kid!" Justin said, still in surprise.

"What's so weird about it?" JC asked calmly.

"Man, because you're so laid-back! I remember when my mom had Jon, everything was crazy!" Justin said, grinning at the memories of his much younger brother as a baby.

"We can deal," JC replied. "I don't expect myself to remain the same as I am now if I have a family."

"Yeah, and don't count on getting as much sleep." Justin said wryly, making JC groan.

"You just have to go and burst my bubble, don't you?" He said jokingly, taking another sip of his drink. "Where's Taylor?"

"She went off to the ladies room for a second," Justin answered with a shrug.

* * * * *

Taylor glanced around as she exited the ladies' room, looking for a sign of Justin or the other guys.

"You lost?" She heard a voice behind her say. The voice was a bit too close for comfort and she whipped around, finding herself looking at one of the most handsomest men she'd ever seen.

"Um, no." She said uneasily. He was leaning against the wall, dressed all in black, looking like a rebel. His raven black hair was full and thick, and his crystal blue eyes stared bore into hers. His full mouth was twisted into a sort of half grin, half smirk as he looked at her.

"You seemed to be," He replied, "Maybe I can help you?" His eyes stared steadily at hers.

"No thank you," She said, as politely as she could manage. "I think I can find my way back." She hurried away from him, but she could feel his thoughtful gaze burning on her back as she headed back to where Justin was.
