"Yeah," He answered dryly. "I thought I'd see how Mika was doing, but she's not home."
"Yeah, she's been a workaholic since the guys left."
"Oh. They still haven't made up?"
"Nope."
"That's too bad," Noah said, looking down at his soda. "She seems distracted though, I mean besides the whole thing between her and JC." The front door slammed and Mikayla came inside quickly and went upstairs without saying hi to either of them. Right now, she had bigger problems on her mind.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh MY GOD! Her mind screamed at her as she burst into her room. With her hands shaking, she changed into a pair of old sweats and a T-shirt. The news was still new, and she was scared out of her mind.
PREGNANT! She was pregnant! The thought fresh in her mind, she sat down on the edge of the bed. What was she going to do? She placed a hand on her stomach. It was still flat right now, but in the coming months she would begin to show.
The thought of a baby with dazzling blue eyes made her start to cry. It wasn't that she didn't want the baby, under different circumstances she would have been elated. She thought of JC, and more tears streamed down her face.
"Mika?" Taylor asked, knocking on the door.
"Come in," Mikayla said, trying to keep her voice steady. She quickly wiped the tears from her eyes, but she wasn't fooling Taylor.
"What's wrong?" Taylor asked, her expression one of concern when she realized that Mikayla had been crying. "Did the doctor find something out?"
"Yeah, he definitely did," Mikayla answered.
"Was it bad?" Taylor asked immediately, kneeling in front of her cousin, her eyes wide. "What's wrong, babe?"
"It's not horrible. I should be the happiest woman in the world right now," Mikayla told her. "Taylor, I'm pregnant."
"Oh my God!" Taylor exclaimed, standing up quickly.
"Exactly."
"You're going to have a baby!" Taylor said excitedly, her expression calming down when she realized that Mikayla and JC hadn't spoken since he'd left a week ago. "Are you going to tell JC?"
"I don’t know." Mikayla answered truthfully, "he's at his peak in his career. And we haven't even spoken. Tay, I don’t know what to do."
"Shh," Taylor took Mikayla in her arms, this time it was her turn to be the comforting shoulder that Mikayla needed. "Right now, focus on yourself. You're going to have a beautiful baby, and he or she is going to be spoiled rotten by their Aunt Taylor." Mikayla smiled at this, "and he or she will play tennis, and we'll pump her with strawberry ice cream-"
"Chocolate." Mikayla corrected.
"Ok, chocolate. But Mika, don't worry." Taylor said, looking into her cousin's eyes and satisfied to see that Mikayla was no longer in the state of anxiety she'd found her in earlier. "Hey, how about you go with Brian to the VMAs?"
"I don't know, Tay." Mikayla said truthfully.
"he's felt really bad about causing the fight between you and JC," Taylor urged, "it'll get your mind off of everything. It's not like he'll have another date anyway."
"Fine. I'll go with him." Mikayla answered. "Anything to get my mind off of JC."
