Chapter 6: Another Day In Life

"Man, that was good," Joey said, patting his full stomach. Everyone nodded in agreement. Mikayla glanced at her watch.

"Oh shoot, it's already three a.m." She said, standing up. "I'd better go to bed, I have to be at work tomorrow. Goodnight, everyone."

"'Nite, Mika." Taylor called back. She studied JC's profile as he watched Mika go up the stairs. Mika had never mentioned him, she had only mentioned having one horrible relationship in the past. Her current boyfriend was a joke. Bill was handsome and had everything that a person could want materialistically, but he was the stuffy, snobby kind of guy. Taylor hated him immensely, but he and Mikayla seemed to have a working relationship. She heard the front door open, and close as quietly as the person could make it.

"I can hear you Noah!" She called out, "I'm still awake!" A young man popped his head into the kitchen, smiling sheepishly. He had the same eyes as Mika and Taylor. JC decided that those eyes were the dominant trait in their family.

"Hey, Tay." He said, then realized there were other people in the kitchen. "You having a party?" He eyed all of the suspiciously, especially Justin, causing Taylor to laugh.

"You know that concert I dragged Mika to? Well, this is 'N Sync. They're going to be staying with us for two weeks."

"Oh, ok. Nice to meet you guys, I'm Noah." He said, shaking their hands. The guys introduced themselves.

"Did you er, enjoy your time with what's her name tonight? Bethany?" Taylor teased.

"Cathy." Noah said, yawning as he headed for the stairs, "it was alright. See you guys tomorrow." He answered sleepily, not wanting to go into details.

The alarm clock's screeching buzz woke Mikayla up with a start later on that morning. Grumbling to herself, she got dressed for work. When her father had died, he had been enormously wealthy. He left enough a substantial amount of money for Danny and Mikayla, along with a couple of houses and a restaurant. They both co-owned and co-managed it.

After taking a shower and getting dressed, she headed downstairs to see if she could find something to eat before leaving for work.

"Didn't sleep very well?" Taylor asked, stirring her cup of hot chocolate. Justin was sitting along with her, eating a bowl of cereal.

"Morning, Mika." He greeted her. She mumbled her greetings and opened the cupboards.

"Mika's not a morning person," Taylor whispered to Justin. He nodded in agreement, since his mouth was full of applejacks.

"Neither is JC." Mikayla found a granola bar and opened it and took a bite.

"I'll try to ask Danny to let me out early, ok you two? Have fun." She grabbed her keys off of the counter.

"Tell Danny I said hi!" Taylor called after her. "So," She said, looking at Justin. "What do you want to do today? I'll let you pick today, but I get to pick tomorrow!"

Justin laughed, "Let's see. How about we play some basketball, hang around here, and then have lunch at a certain restaurant?"

"Which is owned by a certain cousin of mine?" Taylor asked.

"You betcha."

"Let's do it!"

"Something wrong, Mika?" Danny asked, looking at his sister. They sat in their office, taking a break.

"No," She answered, rubbing her temples, "I just got to bed late last night. You wouldn't believe who's staying with us."

"Who?"

"You know that pop group that Taylor likes so much? 'N Sync? They're staying with us for around two weeks I think."

"Ah, 'N Sync," Danny said, knowingly, "is she still screaming with happiness?"

"Actually, she took it quite well. I think Justin may like her, but there's nothing wrong with that. Josh is a member too."

"Josh? As in Josh Chasez?" Danny asked, a surprised look on his face. "I always knew he had a great voice. What did happen between you two a couple of years back?"

"I saw him with Allison."

"Wow. Was his explanation for it weak? Is that why you left?"

"Well, I didn't exactly let him explain it," She told him weakly.

"Mika, you've always been stubborn," Danny said with a sigh.

"I know, I know."

"You're like grandma!" Their grandmother was a tough woman, who had loved both of them fiercely. She had been greatly stubborn, and especially hard on the people she loved.

Mikayla laughed. "I guess I am. I'll go check in the kitchen really quick."

"Okay, bye." Danny said, going back to the paperwork on his desk.
