Chapter 15: How Do You Deal?

Sydney was halfway asleep when she heard the door creak open. She was silent until she felt the mattress creak with Justin's weight. "Hey, what are you doing?" She asked cautiously, flipping around and eyeing him in the darkness.

"I just want to go to sleep," He said innocently.

"Sleep my ass!" She said teasingly, "but seriously, what are you doing in here?"

"I just wanted to sleep with you Syd." He said truthfully, "I just want to hold you before I have to leave. I promise that's all." He said.

"Okay, if that's all." She said, allowing him to inch closer to her. "But keep your distance." She warned.

"Yes ma'am." He replied, grinning in the dark as they both drifted off to sleep.

Lance watched her sleep, the way her face looked completely at rest as she lay in his arms. It crushed him to think about leaving again, not when he'd felt so comfortable and at home with her. He traced a finger delicately down her cheek, trying to memorize her features but knowing full well he'd see them everywhere while he was on tour.

He always wondered about her on tour. The thought of her with another guy scared the hell out of him, but it wasn't like it'd never happened before in previous relationships. Women always got tired of his schedule, and the love was never enough to keep them around for long, but Lindy was different. She loved him, and he loved her with a force that he'd never known he was capable of.

He was deep in thought, and didn't see her open her eyes. "Hey," She said gently, pulling herself closer to him.

"Morning." He replied.

"I wish it were still night," She said with a sigh as she looked out of the window at the morning sun. "we'd still have a little bit more before you'd have to leave."

"Yeah," Lance answered, tilting her face up to his, "but it's not like it's for forever, Lindy. I'll be back, I swear."

After many hugs, kisses, and tearful goodbyes, Lindsey and Sydney watched N Sync back out of the driveway. Justin waved at them, while Lance blew a kiss. Both women watched the retreating back of the SUV.

"Well, there they go," Sydney said with a sigh as her sister put an arm around her waist.

"It's never for long, Syd." Lindsay said. "They'll be back."

"I hope so," Sydney said tearfully, "how do you deal with this every time Lance has to go? It must kill you."

"You never get used to it," Lindy said with a sigh, gazing down the street, "you just have to learn to trust."
