Chapter 9: It's Just Us!

"Shh," Sydney hissed as she searched for the key to Lindsay's house.

"Why?" Justin whispered back, confused.

"It's late," She reminded him, tapping her watch. He glanced at his own.

"wow, how long were we at that restaurant?" He asked, shocked to see it was nearly three a.m.

"I guess we talk too much," Sydney said with a shrug, unlocking the door. It was dark and quiet inside of the house, and they crept inside while Sydney locked the door.

"Be quiet, we don't want to wake any of them up," Justin advised, motioning towards the slightly creaking floorboards beneath Sydney's feet.

"Lance?" Lindsay said suddenly, waking up from her deep sleep. She heard a soft thud coming from the front door. "Lance!" She repeated, nudging him.

"Huh?" Lance asked groggily.

"I hear something," She hissed. "I think someone's in the house."

"It's just your imagination," Lance assured her as he turned onto his side, eager to go back to sleep.

"No! See I just heard it again!" She insisted, nudging him. "Just go check it out, please?"

"Alright," Lance answered, sitting up.

"With all the racket we're making, it's a surprise no one's woken up yet," Sydney joked. She had dropped her keys somewhere on the floor when she had run into the couch.

"It's not my fault, you're the one who dropped your keys." Justin hissed. Both of them were crawling around on the floor, feeling around in the dark.

"I'll just look for it tomorrow when I wake up," She decided, the both of them getting up and dusting themselves off.

"FREEZE!" They heard Lance's voice yell from the direction of the bedrooms. He showed up suddenly in the dark, holding a baseball bat while in his boxers.

"AHH!" Justin and Sydney screamed together, surprised by Lance's sudden appearance. "it's just us, Lance!" Justin yelled, while Sydney dashed towards the light switch.

As the light flooded the room, Sydney could see Lance, holding the baseball bat while Lindsay stood behind him peering out at them. "oh, it's just you," Lance answered, letting the bat fall to his side as he gave another yawn.

"See? I told you I heard someone," Lindsay said, smiling.

"Yeah. You guys are home pretty late," Lance commented, looking at the clock on the wall, "we thought you'd have come home earlier than this."

"We lost track of time," Sydney answered, ignoring the look Lindsay gave her. Joey, Chris, and JC came out several moments later, all looking very tired.

"What's going on?" Joey asked, his red hair sticking out everywhere like a porcupine's.

"Ooh, did Justin and Sydney get caught breaking curfew?" Chris teased.

"Shut up, Chris." Sydney replied, rolling her eyes and yawning. "Well, I don’t know about you people, but I'm going to go get some sleep. Night!" She called out, going to her own room.

"Rise and shine, kiddo!" Lindsay called in front of Sydney's door the next morning. Sydney promptly pushed her head underneath her pillows and pulled all the blankets to her. "Hey! Syd, wake up!" Lindsay opened the door, and patted around on the bottom part of the bed until she had located Sydney's leg, and her foot.

"S-stop!" Sydney squealed when Lindsay began to tickle her, jumping out of the bed and struggling to get away from her sister. "what time is it?" She asked when Lindsay released her.

"It's about seven," Lindsay answered, lying down on the bed next to Sydney.

"Seven? Why'd you wake me up?"

"Oh, because I felt like it," Lindsay teased. "Besides, the guys are out today. I told Lance I wanted to have just a sister day, for me and you, since it hasn't been just the two of us since the wedding."

"Cool."

"How was your date last night?" Lindsay asked her.

"It was okay," Sydney answered with a shrug. "we danced a little bit, ate, and talked a lot."

"Oh, ok." Lindsay answered. "did you like it?"

"yeah, it was fun. He's a pretty neat guy," Sydney answered. "But let's talk about this later, after you treat me to breakfast and a movie."
