~*Hair Scrunchie*~ Cut the fabric 20-22 inches long and 4 inches wide. (1/8 of a yard will make two scrunchies). Sew the fabric together, right sides together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Cut 8 inches off of 1/4 inch elastic. Turn the tube right side out. Using a safety pin, secure the elastic to the tube as you insert it. Next, knot the elastic ends together. (Knotting the ends is much faster then sewing them and is very effective). Afterwards, take on end of the tube and cuff it to the inside. Tuck the other end inside the tube, and just sew across. Ta da! The perfect scrunchie!
~*Hair Sparkle Twist*~ 1. Cut strip of fabric 5.5" x 45". 2. Cut 5" of 1/4" to 3/8" elastic in half, you should have 2 pieces 2 1/2" long. 3. Fold fabric lengthwise and stitch ends closed and long side closed, leaving 2" open in the middle of the long side end open for turning. 4. Fold each piece of elastic in half and stitch each in middle of the end sides. 5. Cut 38" piece of moderately stiff electrical wire (this wire should be off white in color and 1/8" thick and have a yellow, green, red, and black wire inside). Put one end of this wire through the elastic loop on one end and twist the end around itself. Use the wire to push the end through the opening in the side and turn right side out. Do the same with the other end. 6. Stitch opening closed. To use: Put hair in ponytail at nape of neck. Fold twistie in half. Pulling excess fabric fullness to each end. Put lower ends of ponytail in between. Begin rolling ponytail under, around twistie. When at nape of neck, bring ends of twistie up and over ponytail base, twist ends of twistie around one another tightly and crunch. May also be used as a ponytail holder, headband, hatband, or belt. You can also add Glitter For a Beautiful Sparkle and Shine!
~*Beautiful Fur Headband*~ Here are the Directions to Make One: You need a faux fur, any kind, a needle, thread, a marker, ruler, scissor, fabric, and or a sewing machine CUT Cut headband on lengthwise grain, 6 by 26 inches. MARK On the wrong side, use a ruler and marker (crayon is ideal) to mark notches every three or four inches along each long edge. This trick works well any time you're sewing a napped fabric that tends to slip in pinning/sewing. PIN Fold headband lengthwise, right sides together, with raw edges matching. Align notches and pin, placing pins perpendicular to seam. This is a good time to introduce the faux fur mantra: Poke and pin . . . poke and pin. Poke the pile to the right side as you pin, so pile isn't caught in the seam. SEW Set machine for a zigzag stitch (2W, 3.5L) Reduce presser foot pressure (if 6 is normal, reduce to 2). Reduce thread tension (if 6 is normal, reduce to 4). Using an embroidery foot (the grooved-out base sits nicely on the lofty pile), sew the long seam. Stitch WITH nap, sewing very close to the fabric edge. Center seam; on the end where pile goes DOWN, match curved edges and pin. Stitch curved end. TURN Turn the open-ended tube right side out. Along wooden cooking spoon is ideal for facilitating this step. SHAKE Give the headband a good shake to encourage the nap to lie properly. CLOSURE A Velcro half is positioned on each end; Place soft half on underside of closed end. Using the same zigzag stitch and loose needle tension, stitch around Velcro. Lightly brush pile from stitching (a pet brush is the perfect tool). Pin stiff half of Velcro to open end, face up, so that 1/2" is inside tube. Do a quick fit check. The fur ends should MEET. If they OVERLAP, trim the open end. With curved edges matching, pin, then stitch end, catching both layers of fur and Velcro. You can make the pattern any way you want, and you can add, glitter, sparkles, seqiens, and whatever else you need to decorate it, and make it beautiful! That's it -- enjoy!
