Emeralds and Rubies
I'll say it only once,
out loud so you can hear.
I do envy your clothes,
         and your nice house,
and the way your windows always shine.
I envy the way you can sleep in silence,
         in your rich neighborhood,
And the way you shop,
for you, not the world.
I envy your style and your grace,
         and that huge,
         sparkling,
         material,
         Emerald,
You display on your shelf.

Here's another thing,
I'm going to say just once.
I don't envy you.
I don't envy your arrogance,
at those big banquets you attend.
Nor your pity,
         for everyone below your class.
Not to mention the chunk of cold,
         hard,
         solid,
         Granite in your soul.

One day you'll see,
         I'll be above you.
You'll look for me in the soil,
and I won't be there anymore.
I am taking my time,
         polishing and buffing my Ruby,
                 this Ruby in my soul,
         until it shines,
brighter than any jewel.
And you'll watch in...envy?
As I place it on my shelf.

No, I don't envy you.
But I'll say that only once.
