BIRTHDATE: October 19, 1966 BIRTHPLACE: Queens, New York MARITAL STATUS: Married, one child WHY HE DESERVES HIS BIG BREAK: He's money, baby! You might have seen him as Sean Astin's pal D-Boy in the football drama Rudy. Or, you might not have--he's nearly unrecognizable in it. But it wasn't until 1996 that Jon Favreau really hit his stride, writing and co-starring in Swingers, the hilarious tale of a bunch of aspiring actors trolling for "beautiful babies" in Los Angeles and Vegas. Sure, co-star Vince Vaughn that ended up hitting the big time, but it was Favreau's performance as Mike that everybody remembers and relates to later. Getting his start in Chicago improvisational theater (alongside Chris Farley and Tim Meadows), Favreau's supporting role in the critically acclaimed Rudy initially lead only to small roles in films such as Batman Forever, PCU, and Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (where his name was spelled wrong in the credits). However, Swingers, his first published screenplay, was a surprise hit on the independent film scene, earning several award nominations and helping to usher in the revival of the martini and swing music "neo-lounge" scene. Since then, Jon Favreau has given a number of equally memorable and versatile film performances, playing a doomed astronaut in Deep Impact, a bridegroom who attends the bachelor party from hell in Very Bad Things, boxer Rocky Marciano in the film of the same name, and a pit bull football player in The Replacements. As of this writing, he's reunited with Swingers co-star Vince Vaughn in the crime caper comedy Made. Like Swingers, Made is written by Jon Favreau--but this time he's directing it, too. That's cooler than the ties he worer in Swingers. |
