BURNING MAN '98

A wonderful if psychotic time. Dust storms, rain, 124 degree heat in the shade, sun burn, pyrotechnics, fireworks, music, and a small city designed by tens of thousands to be the most bizarre sight on earth.

My view from about ten o clock until about seven, because it was just toooo hot to even think of moving.

The giant rubic's cube that was near us.

The nebulous entity being nebulous

The tactile corridor, which was excellent to walk down with your eyes shut and in the dark

The Tahj

Prepared for Burning Man

Freezing man. These nice folks gave out coupons for ice cream then drove around handing them out during midday heat. A truck of free frozen mars bars and other treats was magic

The temple of Meloncholia. Hard core goths, all pale and tragic, and still boldly wearing corsets in the hideous insane heat of the desert

The Burning Man doing pretty much what he was supposed to do. Except that this year it went horribly wrong. The bloke who gets lit on fire and then ignites the man brushed it early setting off the main stack of pyrotechnics. There was a pulse of light and fire, and we figured ‘he’s dead then’. The fireworks lanced out at the audience, using up an hours worth of steady display in a few minutes. It was brilliant.
