Wanna hear about me, a tad more in depth ? Here's my [not so] interesting tale...

I was born December 26, 1986 in the wonderful wonderful state of Texas and have lived there ever since ! In fact, I've lived in the same house my entire life. My parents were middle/high school sweethearts; Mama started dating my dad when she was 14. (Yes, they are still married and are going on 23 years.) I have one older sister, Melissa Catherine, who is 4 years my senior.

I was an extremely sharp kid and elementary school was a breeze. When I was in 2nd grade or so, I started packing on the pounds and eventually I developed a case of... well, to put it nicely, a whole lot more than "baby fat". To make matters worse, over Christmas break in 3rd grade, I cut my hair (which is naturally extremely thick and curly) to just a little below my chin. This begins the years of "The Affro Puff".

Fast forward to 6th grade. This is the peak of "The Fat Years", and... well... abruptly put, I was 5'5" and 185 pounds. Naturally, I was kinda an easy target for teasing. However, I was smart. I was in all Honors classes in 7th grade, and my love of theatre was truly brought into attention. The first play, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, I was too afraid to try out. (I was the stage manager, however.) Looking back, I kick myself; I could've easily gotten one of the leading parts.

When Ms. May, my theatre instructor of 3 years, announced that the theatre dept. was competing in UIL one-act play competition, nothing would stop me from being involved. The play chosen was You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and I desperately wanted to portray Lucy. I did audition, and didn't get Lucy; instead, I was cast as Peppermint Patty. We won first place in competition and I received an Honorable Mention medal for my individual performance.

The summer before 8th grade, I changed a great deal. I realized how unhappy I was with who I had become, and over the next 8 months or so, I shed 60 pounds and dropped from a size 16 to a size 2. I was determined to make my 8th grade year one to remember. It started out with becoming president of Student Council and Vice-President of our National Junior Honor Society. Our first play, Class Action, was held around Christmas and I had a fairly large role. Our one-act, however, was what I was concerned about.

Ms. May selected the play Quilters as the final play to be put on by the "original" drama babies. Auditions came around, and I was pleased when I discovered that I received the lead role of Sarah. Let me just say that we all worked our tails off on that show... and it was undoubtedly the biggest play we had put on yet. We did extremely well in competition, bringing in another first place and a Best Actress medal around my neck. I was unbelievably pleased with the honor of Best Actress... but it didn't matter anywhere near as much as the other joys I had received from that show. Sure, I griped about rehearsals and costuming and makeup... but my heart was that play. I made some very close friends in that show.

I was also pleased to learn that I had been selected for all GT (Gifted & Talented) classes for my freshman year, which was steadily approaching. A LOT happened between spring and summer... and maybe someday I'll be able to put it all into words. Just not now.

Freshman year rolled around, and I signed up for AcDec, Student Council, and JV Drill Team. My love for theatre has somewhat diminished.... Yeah, I still adore it; it was just slightly too much of a jump for me to change directors and co-stars. I don't think I was prepared for it. Also, rehearsals conflict with other duties, namely JV drill. I'm not much of a dancer... but I do enjoy JV drill, to an extent. I would love to become a Lariette, the Varsity team, but I know I am not talented enough. Besides that, my GT classes are EXTREMELY time consuming.

AcDec is loads of fun. It's work, but the people involved are a blast. (BTW, AcDec is sort of like Academic Team.) I really need to work harder if I expect to do well in competition, however ! LOL... Well, I'm already almost halfway through my freshman year. I'm currently single, and not really expecting that fact to change anytime soon. But that's ok too... because my utmost desire is to graduate as Valedictorian of my class, with hopefully a 4.0 GPA ! But we'll just have to see what happens...
