SPREWELL V CARTER [11/08/01]
This is another of my articles that I compare top players and try to answer the questions that are on peeps lips for a while now. This article will concentrate on the two top forwards: Carter and Sprewell. Even though Sprewell plays as a guard for most of the time, I'll still compare these two players. I'll tryt o come out wit an unbiased opinion on the outcome, aiight?
First of all, like i did wit AI and Francis, I'll compare the both in dribbling skills. Sprewell has that simplicity in his dribbling skills, which allows him to control the ball a lot easier than his opponents, and still allows him to beat player one-on-one. Carter hasn't got the dribbling skills i don't think, becasue of his size. He doesn't really play against opponents one-on-one, but rather plays more in transition, which helps in other aspects of the ball game, but I'll get tio those later. So Sprewell has the upperhand in the dribbling skills and the one-on-one factor of the game.
The JUMPSHOT, also i think Sprewell has that simplicity in his jumpshot that lets him increase his field goal percentage against Carter. His jumpshot has that unique factor, which is hard to explain. He doesn't lean back at all, but leans almost in front or stays straight in the air, compared to Carter's jumpshot, which is a try-hard Iverson jumper, in which he tries leaning back like a fadeaway, but his accuracy aint there i don't think to compare him to Iverson, or even Sprewell for that matter.
Let's not forget about the DEFENCE though. Defensively, i think Spree rips Carter apart because of Spree's quick hands and quick feet, and he also more quick in reflexes than Carter is. Sprewell beats him in this.
The DUNKING factor, i think we all know the answer ot this one. Carter is known as the best dunker in the game, even compared to MJ [which i think is bullshit]. Carter's innovation in the art of dunking puts him ahead of the rest, but a lot come close to Carter [Kobe, T-Mac, Francis] but i don't see Spree on the list. Spree doesn't innovate in his dunks, but still makes it look good. He's got one dunk, which is that infamous double-handed powerdunk, and that's probably the only one he pulls of lately. He aint consistent in dunking also, he'll dunk the ball once in ever 5 games or so, whereas, VC is jamming the ball down like it's a fukkin dunk contest. So we all knew the answer to this befo i wrote this, and the answer stays the same.
Because of the dunking factor, VC also takes it out in the ENTERTAINMENT factor. WE all know why, so i wont waste my time writing about it, But what I will write is the fact that a lot of peeps forget another fact that contributes to the outcome that
pulls VC out in front in Entertainment. This si the fact that NY Knicks aint even an exciting team, I think the NY coach and teamplay are too simple-minded and very focused on winning the game rather than going out and having fun. Sprewell was an explosive player in Golden State as y'all know, but as soon as he put his NY top on, the teamplay and the coach dragged all that explosiveness out of him. That's why you see boring players in NY like Allan Houston, Camby, Ewing[former Knick]. So it's not all Spree's fault here, but still aint an excuse. Carter beats him in this.
The Physcial factor also put Carter in front. Even though they almost the same height, it's the wieght and the muscles on Carter that beats Spree in this one as well.
So overall, if you look at it into these different factors, Carter wins i think. But if you concentrate on the fact that the factors that Spree is winning in wins games, and not ENTERTAINMENT and dunking. So the Overall result probably is a draw. But since y'all here for a result, the facts are favoring more on Carter's side than Sprewell's.
