Wacky Racontuers,

I lost who orginally said it, but he/she said:
>>I think the video version of Ursula LeGuin's the Lathe of Heaven was
the best
>>adaptation I've ever seen.
>
>Never read it (and she's from Portland! Sorry Ursula!) but it was
*fascinating*
>TV. - S.

That's right, folks. Go ahead and torture me. I have never gotten to see
this and
have wanted to for absolutely ages. So, is this available on video
somewhere? I
read and loved the book back in the early 70's during my "read
everything by Ursula"
period, and heard several years later that it had been a movie presented
on PBS,
but I missed it, and never got another chance to catch it. It wasn't
more than a year
ago I last looked in my local video stores catalog and could not find
it. If somebody
could get me hooked up with this on video, I would be your bestest buddy
forever and
ever!!! Honest!

On another totally pointless thread, something somebody said last week
started me to
a-thinkin about the foolish concept of comparing musical artists to
visual artists.
For example, TBITB could possibly be the Eschers of the music world,
Henry Cow or
maybe Soft Machine would be Dali, Beethoven might be DaVinci, and the
Carpenters
would of course be the Family Circus (a cartoon that runs in American
newspapers)
of music.

Hopefully THIS foolish thread will die a quick and well deserved death,
but we shall
see.

Toby,

<<
Many of us seem to overlook the fact that not everyone in this group
is
a native American. Many of the folks out there don't speak english as their
native tongue (or only tongue as is the case for far too many of us, I fear).
I really appreciate the efforts non-native-english folks make to speak/write
in our language, since I cannot reciprocate in their language. With this
in
mind, I wish somebody had taken a couple of recent questions a little more
seriosly, instead of the few silly answers that were given.
>>

I take silliness very seriously, and I'm not kidding. If I gave the impression of not caring, then I owe someone an apology. I also know of no Native Americans on the list, but I wouldn't hold it against 'em...

<< William Tindall asked:

No, I did not. Ant did. I answered frivolously, in what I believe was the spirit of the question. Don't take frivolity lightly. I mean, don't take lightness frivolously. I mean... There may be a deeper meaning to this, but, if so, a larf couldn't hurt.
I enjoy language and the differences between cultures very much, but I ain't perfeck, and I hope I contribute a smile or two in this way, on my way. That's all. No-one on the "Pointy end" of my humour has complained to me, recently. If they should, I'll be all ears.

<< Let us not forget that we may have never heard Kerry and the Shulmans collaborate,

I can't even begin to respond to that. Boggle, boggle, boggle

Couldn't agree more, Bill. I can't name one establishment of the
watering-hole variety where the Ladies' is not better decorated, better
fumigated or better generally maintained than its male counter-part. If I
have one complaint it is that the chewing gum out of their machines always
tastes a bit funny.......

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same frustrations as
myself over the years, with the releases of Tomorrow's self titled
album.

I originally purchased a vinyl copy from Charly Records Ltd, way back
in 1987 (LIK2). No problems, great sound. When the album was then
issued on CD by See For Miles Records (SEE CD 314), I raced out and
purchased a copy. What a disappointment! Two of the best tracks, "My
White Bicycle" and "Revolution" along with a third "The Incredible
Journey Of Timothy Chase" were extremely poorly mixed. The left
channel was extremely muddled and in the case of "Timothy Chase"
contained no sound at all at times.

Several years later, after hearing a rumor that the problem had been
fixed, I again purchased a copy of the See For Miles CD but alas
nothing had changed.

After recently hearing that EMI had remastered the album with bonus
tracks I immediately ordered a copy. Alas, disappointment yet again!
"Timothy Chase" has been fixed but "My White Bicycle" and "Revolution"
are no better The rest of the album is fantastic and the extra
tracks contain some real gems. But the poor quality of tracks one and
five make the package incomplete.

Why can't they get it right? Has anyone else experienced these same
frustrations over the years, or am I just being too picky?

If I remember correctly, the recent EMI issue sounds the way the
original vinyl from way back when sounded. (I am on thin ice here,
because I haven't heard the vinyl for thirty years, and I have never
heard the Charly issue). I don't think I have ever heard anything but a
"fake stereo" mix of "My White Bicycle".

If Satriani, Vai & Johnson was the G3 tour, would Emo & Wakemo be the B3 tour?
