The music is excellent too. Lowe knows how to milk a set of diatonic triads
and an acoustic folk band (various combinations of guitars, accordions,
fiddles, piano, upright bass) for all they're worth. There's a lot of
harmonic and textural variety on the album [_The Parish Notices_]. It's on
Green Linnet in the US; don't know what label it's on in the UK. I didn't
need the Richard Thompson promo cover sticker ("the best songwriter to come
out of England in a long time") to tell me to buy this because I'd already
been favorably impressed by his material on the BBC shortwave when I was in
Thailand. But it certainly didn't hurt that this was a Princeton Record
Exchange $2 bargain bin item. :-) Now I'll probably pay more for his other
releases when they turn up.

(D)I know some composers who think there ought to be a law that enables a
(E)composer to kill performers who misinterpret their music. I don't feel
(J)quite that strongly about it. I'm pretty happy just getting a performance.
