Hey Y'all!

God of Thunder here. Thorlina says Hi.

Just wanted to say that last night I went to the
weirdest gig I have ever been to. I mean, MAJOR WEIRD!

Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters.

There was an odd aroma in the air, probably some new designer perfume,
I'll wager. But that is not why I write. The presence of a Theremin,
played by Mr Kesey, is why I write. And also, because I want to say a thing
I never, ever thought I would say...I have seen and heard a Theremin solo!

Bizarre gig. Great fun, though.

My CD copy of Playing the Fool does not have Sweet Georgia Brown on it. I
do have the vinyl version, but I'm wondering If there is another version
of this available on CD.
######################
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe John Weathers plays (played) with a
band called "Man". What was that like?
######################
Free Hand was played quite a bit on the airwaves in AZ when it came out.
I do remember that GG was a favorite in the Phoenix area ... but what are
your memories of that period in Giantdom? I am interested in reading your
stories about where you were when you heard cuts from Free Hand on the
radio. Did you get a kick out of rubbing it in the faces of those that
said GG would never amout to anything? I know I did. Someone in this GG
discussion group said that for the most part including GG on radio
playlists was a mistake. It wasn't where I lived (Phoenix). I was so
thrilled that I called the radio station to ask about it. They said that
the album raised a lot of favorable eyebrows, so they would continue to
play it for a while. I rubbed it into several incredulous faces. I
wonder if Phoenix is still progressive like that.

n.p.: Buggles: The Plastic Age (new version with bonus tracks) - yes, it IS a

Wot? Anderson (do you mean Jon or Ian?) singing with GG?
Jon - forget him! Derek's voice is deep-ish, rumbling and sexy, Jon's is
esoteric and without BITE!
Ian - not enough depth for GG!

What I like about Beck is the fact that he does all sorts of things - some just
for the hell of it. Case in point: he played with British comedian (and one of
my all-time favourites - together with Spike Milligan and Billy Connolly) Lenny
Henry. Beck played the blues, while Lenny Henry kinda portrayed one of his
favourite characters. I love Beck's attitude for such stuff!

The thing about MOFI is that they try to stay true to the 70s sound, which IMO
is for the most part "softer", i.e. with less harsh treble and more middle and
bass. I like that a lot when I get it on CD.

In fact it was. And believe it or not, but there are whole companies in the US
specialising in peeling off the trunks from the originals sleeves, as they were
stuck on in different parts of the US and used different types of glue. Just
tear it off, and you reduce the value of the record by a lot!

Actually, the butcher cover photo was part of a photo series by the then-Beatles
photographer (I think it was him anyway) to shoot photos representing various
phases in life. It wasn't meant to be released - but still looks great. Afford
it? You gotta be kiddin' me - for that money I'd rather make a trip round the
world...and then some.

I've got it on One Way Records S21-18466 Cema Special Markets, which hails
from Albany New York. It mirrors the vinyl, and fits on one CD.
Man is an incredible jamming group, and yes, Weathers plays with them on and

OK then I will say this. My kids bought the Vengaboys CD when we were in
Spain on holiday. The first couple of tracks were mind nummingly awful but
then there was a chil out track which I quite liked, not unlike the Ozrics
