"LADDER" that will be release in late September, has a song " Lightning
Strikes" that is downloadable through www.towerrecords.com and you will be
in need of "Liquid Music Player" ( which is in Dolby digital and a mere 1.5
MB download) to enjoy it.  Nice player, great new (?) technology listening
stuff and the release of Lightning Strikes?  You listen and judge for
yourself...  Its about a 10 minutes download for the song.

Enjoying Rick Martin's music (I think I have repeated this next

be an artist "made up" by a big label to become a major hit. We in

The last word on the release of the first two Ambrosia CD's came out this 
spring as a press release....

"The group continues to work with Warner Bros. & the archives
division, namely David McCleese @ Rhino Records, to fulfill their promise to
package the first two Ambrosia albums, Ambrosia & Somewhere I've Never
Travelled,  together--seperate CD's & liner notes in a double jewel case. They
have asked the group for one or two bonus cuts recorded at the time of the
first two albums and when the guys tried to make transfers from their old
analogue tapes they found that there was too much tape shedding and audio drop
outs, therefore a more delicate process is underway for baking the tapes prior
to digital mastering.  Hopefully they'll be ready before the next century!

Actually, I have to say I really, really like it. When I read what it was all 
about, I said to myself, "Shit, don't need that" Then I did listen to it in my 
"local record shop" and found it to be very interesting. Even though I'm not 
normally partial to Bossa Nova at all, I think that this is a great album! Very, 
very lovely vocals - great arrangements. I think you either like it or hate it - 
I happen to LURVE it!

an outrageous price even expensive I thought compared to the usual prices here
in Australia. $149.95 AUS which is approx 103.50 US for a 4CD Box Set.
a normal price for a CD here is $30.00 which runs out at $approx $21.00 US
Still I am glad that I brought it as I think that it is getting harder to find and it was still sealed.
Has anyone brought Yesshows or Drama? I know that a lot of fans are not too keen on Drama.
I was thinking of ordering in a copy from Germany
where it is still listed as available.

I've never heard Drama, but my attitude on the various line-ups is that
once we got over the Wakeman to Moraz and back to Wakeman again thing, it
became rather obvious that Yes would be a "liberal" band.  I enjoy all of
these incarnations, with a few reservations.  One of these days I'll
listen to Drama.  As for buying it ... well, maybe.  I also have the Yes
boxed set, the "Great Deceiver" KC boxed set, and the Tull 3 CD set.  I'll
never sell them, so it makes little difference what they're worth.

(DJ)TFTO is, for me, simply one of the best prog attempts (by any band) at 
(DJ)real _depth_ in composition. It's length isn't really an issue with me. 
(DJ)It very simply worx as it is. Relayer is sorta like a TFTO reprise. I 
(DJ)was saddened when Yes no longer pursued this direction. 

(DJ)Many, many years ago...I was a security guard with a lot of time on my 
(DJ)hands at work. TFTO was a staple for me then. I actually brought the 
(DJ)stereo (it wasn't portable, really) to work and set it up in my office 
(DJ)each evening just to listen to Tales drifting thru the fertilizer shed 
(DJ)all thru the nite. Now there's a memory... 

(DJ)Anything worth listening to requires some serious listening time to 
(DJ)really appreciate it. This applies across the board to all art that 
(DJ)has any depth whatsoever.

Here are some of my recent acquisitions:

Steve Hackett - Darktown
Hackett is back with a 90's sound and a bunch of strong tracks. One of
his best records ever IMO, and the closing track is almost
"Starless"-ish in all its grandeur.

Etcetera - Fin De Siecle
Almost like a travel through a prog landscape, with influences from a
lot of the great 70s bands, from Genesis to Gong. Still a very original
album with strong songwriting and performances.Recommended, especially
if you like classic prog.

Happy The Man - Death's Crown
Rehearsal tape from '74, but musically very strong. Vocalist BTW, is Dan
Owen, who later sang on Anthony Phillips' "Sides" album.

News From Babel - Work Resumed On The Tower/Letters Home
A must for fans of Art Bears and Henry Cow. Composed by Lindsay Cooper,
with Chris Cutler, Zeena Parkins and Dagmar Krause + some haunting
vocals by Robert Wyatt. Quirky, yet melodic and utterly fascinating.

Outer Limits - A Boy Playing The Magical Bugle Horn
A wonderful album finally on CD! Even the horrendous vocals and the most
silly English pronounciation you are ever likely to hear cannot prevent
this from being one of my favourite albums of all times. Stylistically,
like a more adventurous and creative PFM. Grab it if you get the chance.
Japanese issue.

Sebastian Hardie - Four Moments
Classical mid-70s Yes-influenced Mellotron-drenched prog. For those who
like TFTO.

Billy Nicholls - Would You Believe
Very limited issue of an archetypical British psychedelia album from
1968. Unknown singer, backed by The Small Faces and other top names of
the time. Charming, but quality-wise not up there with the best of the period.

Procol Harum - Home
Perhaps my favourite Procol album, beautifully remastered with a lot of
interesting bonus tracks.

Who - My Generation, The Very Best of The Who
Of course, every home should have one.....

Procosmian Fannyfiddlers - Fisted Lady
Nasty lyrics + nice music makes a very strange, but very worthwhile
combination. Geir Hasnes was involved with this band for a while, he's
not on this record, though.

Pretty Things - Parachute
Newly remastered with bonus tracks and extensive liner notes. A classic!

You already have almost one third of Drama on the Yesyears set ('Does it 
Really Happen & Tempus Fugit). If you like those, you'll like the rest. The 
standout track is 'Machine Messiah'.
I like Yesshows a lot although it isn't a patch on Yessongs. Some people 
aren't too keen on the mix which is a bit bottom-end heavy. That isn't 
surprising given that it was produced by Chris Squire.

Ready'
My cousin and wife, both Genesis fans groaned in disapproval. I didn't like
all the tracks but the overriding thought I was left with was 'Hey that
group did some pretty good stuff' Well I already knew that but hearing some
of the later, Post Gabriel, post Hacket songs which I'd previously scorned,
through another vehicle made me realise that they were actually pretty well
constructed and appealing.

I heard an interesting fact about Paganini recently at a concert which
featured his guitar compositions. Apparently the reason he got to compose
for guitar was that he was slung in jail for getting a girl pregnant and not
being able to support her. A fellow inmate had a guitar which was the only
instrument available and which he lent to Pag. He learned to play it and had
plemty of time on his hands to do a bit of composition.
