A Single Chip solution for Voice
Processing was a very widely prevailing concept until
recently, until we see that for these to
be used in communication equipment like Mobile phones, we need extra chips
for coding
to a standard (GSM/..), display drivers, ..etc.
Now VLSI
inc, US, (now merged with PHILIPS) has introduced
a Single Chip Solution, (armed with DSP/ARM core) for
a complete GSM coder
which has some tremendous features:
Any idea how many companies are working over the
world to embed voice processing into consumer systems ! Only some
are
listed below:

This list does not include the myriad
chip manufacturers or institutions, who develop technologies in this field
!
There is also an industry alliance, that looks
at standardisation of Mobile Speech Technologies, called VoiceTIMES
(Voice Technology Initiative for Mobile Enterprise Solutions). This
alliance has six partners as of 1999, consisting of IBM, Philips,
Intel, Dictaphone, e.Digital, Norcom Electronics,
and Olympus. Learn more about VoiceTIMES here..
