My Cats Don't Shed (I Do)

Kitty Glop

"Glop" is what many breeders use as a milk replacer for kittens that need handfeeding or to wean kittens to a dish. It is also a yummy, bland food  for convalescing cats, or even just a treat. Straight from the fridge it is a white jello that the cats must chew. Warmed, it is liquid. There are many variations on "glop".  This one is mine.

Ingredients:

2c goats milk warmed to almost boiling  (or 1 can evaporated milk and 1 can boiling water)

1 pack Knox plain unflavored gelatin

4 Tablespoons mayonaise (not "diet" or "lite" and not Miracle Whip)

4 Tablespoons corn/karo syrup (clear is ideal)

1 small container (1 cup) plain unflavoured (not vanilla) yogurt (not low-fat) -- I use goatsmilk yogurt

1 capsule acidophilus (optional - great for weaning or cats on antibiotics)

Put warm milk into blender. Turn the blender on and slowly add the gelatin powder. Mix for at least two minutes to ensure the gelatin has disolved.  (Or, if you use evaporated milk and water, just disolve gelatin in water and poor both into a bowl.)  Add the other ingredients and mix well. Serve warm in a low dish. Poor remaining liquid glop into covered containers and store in the fridge like jello/yogurt.  It will set.  For other meals, warm the serving of glop in the microwave for a 10--20 seconds until just melted.

I prefer goats' milk to cows' milk for my glop recipe because it has smaller protein molecules and is easier to digest.

WARNING: Unless taurine is added, this is NOT a suitable, long-term meal replacement for cats.
