February 9, 2007 - With Sadness and Fond Memories

Sherise Giffen-Rousch has asked me to write this to the Devon world. It is with great sadness that she shares with us the loss of three of her very special Devons.

On February 1, Kotickee's Kabuki Amuro ("Kabuki"), Sherise's first Devon, passed away in her ex-boyfriend's home at the age of 16. He was a much-loved pet and the beginning of her Devon passion.

Then, last week, she lost her first breeding girl, Kotickee's House Wren, aka "Mojoko", who was also 16.

At noon today, I got the saddest news that KabukiAmuro's Solomon, Sherise's stud boy for the last 11 years, crossed The Rainbow Bridge this morning.

Solomon was out of KabukiAmuro's Charcoal and sired by Loganderry's Georgie Porgie. He was a great grandson of "Mojoko".

He leaves behind a legacy, not just with the KabukiAmuro cattery, but also with PrairieDawn, Capilano and Catsanhana. He was a beautiful, affectionate red boy that the girls loved. He gave us all joy when he was with us and he brought us wonderful colour surprises, including tortie girls with seemingly no red on them, dilute, and chocolate.

Solomon sired my "A" litter, including Grand Champion PrairieDawn's Abracadabra ("Abby") and PrairieDawn's Admired Miranda of Nudirexshun and is daddy to my new stud boy, Capilano's Stirling.

Sherise's new boy, Capilano's Jupiter, was also sired by Solomon.

So was Capilano's Ringoffire of Catsanhana ("June"), who is currently TICA's second-ranked Devon in Championship. June Supremed in three shows, was last season's best Devon kitten in TICA international and 10th best kitten in the SE region. She is currently the 2nd best cat in Championship in the SE region.

Needless to say, Sherise is heartbroken. She says she doesn't know what she'll do without her "Solly", whom she hoped would have enjoyed a few more years in her home as a retired, spoiled, pet.

Rest in peace, kitties.
