Planned Litters and Breaks -- Entry for June 9, 2007

Three of our four girls are prone to pyometria, an infection of the uterus that can be life-threatening, and need to be bred upto twice per year to stay healthy. That means a lot of kittens for us right now, which also means a lot of work and few opportunities to go away or do much of anything besides care for cats.  




I've been planning breedings with the cats we have so that we can keep kittens, retire their mothers, and take a breather while the babies grow up. If all goes according to plan -- LOL it never does, but I can hope -- we will have no births between December 2007 and May 2008 and get a much-needed rest.




Here's the plan, which shows you which cats will be bred and when, the colour of kittens we can possibly get,  and the date for placements. It also tells you which adults we may retire if we produce kittens that are better than they are:




P = Harmony x Stirling, born May 28, p.Aug25






  • black/brown/silver bicolours, three girls and one boy

  • I'll keep a girl (that carries longhair gene) and retire Harmony

  • vaccines and deworming Jul8,Jul29,Aug25

  • kittens available end of August after spays/neutering


Q = Chloe x Roo, e. June 30, p. Sep22






  • I will keep a girl that may carry LH (50% will carry)

  • colours: red, black, brown, maybe chocolate (if Chloe carries chocolate gene)

  • mostly solids, some tabby

  • vaccines Aug11, Sep 1, Sep 22 


R = Purdy x Roo, e. July7, p. Sep29






  • I will keep a girl, curly or not, if better than mom, Purdy will retire

  • colours: chocolate only

  • moslty solids, some tabby

  • vaccines Aug18, Sep 8, Sep 29


S = Sweet Pea x Roo, breeding planned for no later than July 10




June 10, e.July29, p. end October




July 10, Aug 29, end November






  • I will keep a boy, hopefully chocolate (50% chance of being chocolate)

  • colours: chocolate or white, black, brown (all will carry chocolate)

  • patterns: tabby, silver, smoke, solid 

  • Roo and Sweet Pea will retire or return to breeders
