Why Millennium?

There are a number of reasons why I’ve devoted a section of ‘Rat Tail Production’sX-Files Site.’ to one of 1013’s other productions Millennium. The root of all these reasons lies a few months ago when I heard the news that one ofthe episodes in the seventh series of The X-Files would be a cross-over with ChrisCarter’s other series, the sadly now cancelled Millennium.Despite the fact (living in the United Kingdom) that I wouldn’t be able to see series 7of The X-Files for at least a year I decided to catch up with the characters, themesand mythology of Millennium. When Millennium was first shown in the UK I sat, watched and enjoyed it. Howeverdue to ITVs insistence on showing it at a late hour and erratic scheduling I didn’tbecome a regular viewer of this extraordinary show. Now I had another chance to watch the first series (ITV is refusing to buy the secondseries off FOX) and suffice to say I’m glad that I took that chance. Here at last was another dark, disturbing, intelligent show which while (in my opinion)not quite as good as The X-Files was certainly a worthy companion series, a sister series if you will. As my enthusiasm for the new show grew, I began to search for sites devoted to it onthe Internet. Here I was pleasantly surprised by a number of well designed, entertaining sites (my favourite has to be Brian A. Dixon’s ‘The Millennial Abyss’)which (despite the death of the show) were still updated. These sites further fuelled my enthusiasm for the show and encouraged me to devote asmall section of my website to them and the show which inspired them.
