The Land Song

IN the misty dawn of time, when the Dreaming first began
The First People were born with the singing of the Land;
For eon upon eon Spirits sang the Land alive,
And the people who belong here taught their children how to thrive.

For the Rainbow Song goes on and on, it is ancient and it's strong

Then from far across the oceans the wandering peoples came,
Bringing with us our confusion and our suffering and shame:
We'd forgotten how to listen, and we couldn't seem to see
That when we harm the Land's song we are hurting you and me.

Still the Rainbow Song goes on and on, it is ancient and its strong

But the Goddess loves Her children, scattered wide though we may be,
And she calls us to awaken, and stirs ancient memories
Of the Dreaming of our ancestors in far-off lands and days
Who embraced the Earth as sacred and who walked the Goddess ways.

And the Rainbow Song goes on and on, it is ancient and its strong

Those who love this land we live from, and don't want to see it die
When we open feel the Land's pain and we hear its desperate cry:
Children of the Goddess Dreaming, wake up to the Rainbow Song -
If you're willing to learn to listen you can learn how to belong.

For the Rainbow Song goes on and on, it is ancient and its strong.

So we're learning how to listen, learning to understand,
Yes we're learning how to listen to the voices of the Land;
For with help from Snake and Magpie, and with Frog to hold our hand
We can open to the Land's Song, touch the Rainbow in the Land

For the Rainbow Song goes on and on, it is ancient and its strong.
