In his own words
'So here I am in Woodhill Prison. I'm on 'D' wing, the worst place to be. 'D' wing is the pits, you get fuck all on that wing, all I've got is £2.50 week private cash to spend and my wages of £6.50, people like that Michael Sams gets fortunes to spend, I've killed no one, I'm not gonna kill anyone yet I'm in this filthy stinking hole. I've no window, I have to suck air through a stinking vent, my bed's a concrete plinth with a lousy mattress on it, my back hurts when it gets cold, in the summer it gets so stifled you could die in this place, my furniture is made of compressed paper, my toilet's got no lid and no seat, I've got no notice board on my wall either like was said in the House of Lords to a reply made to Lord Longford's question put about my poor conditions.
When my dear old mum visits there is eight screws at the ready, can you believe that? Now am I gonna do anything against my old mum, but this lot make it out to be worse than it is, gotta get some overtime in somehow to pay for them holidays. Do you know my brief, Mr T, was even told he couldn't bring too much change in, yet he always brings the same amount of change so he can get me some choc bars out of a vending machine, but do you know they want to take that vending machine out all because some other visiting room in Woodhill hasn't got one – can you believe that? It's true! My good friend Steve Richards sent me a wooden easel in here, they wouldn't allow me it, showed me it through the door – do you know the fuck on he had to get a wooden easel for me to use? This lot don't want me to have anything that will help me. Them dirty stinking paedophiles can have the best of everything, TVs in their cells, as much private cash as they want, their own clothes and hours and hours of visits a month, do you know I'm only allowed two half hours a month, apart from legal visits.
I’m banged up in my cell for 23 hours a day, the hour I'm allowed out I go into a caged yard to exercise, I do handstand press ups and other stuff, rain don't stop me, I feel closer to nature when it rains, my body needs water, the wind blows off me and I feel alive – then I go back to my stinking hole in the ground!
Remember this, no matter how hard or how soft you are, if you're ugly or beautiful, have no arms, no legs or look like the elephant man – somebody loves you and you're beautiful to them,
