Spells of Lathan Aendyr
Lathan's Blissful Puff of Glee
Level: 2
School: Enchantment/Charm, Elemental Air
Range: 30 feet
Duration: 1 hour
Area of Effect: 1 person
Components: S, M
Casting Time: 3
Saving Throw: None
Sir Lathan Aendyr of the Alphatian Principality of Blackhill crafted this spell to provide an air-borne conveyance of the deleterious Alphatian drug, zzonga. The caster must have a pinch of zzonga powder which he will blow towards his target. The spell carries the zzonga aloft as a fragrant cloud of pink dust, which unerringly follows the target as long as he stays within range. It takes one round for Lathan's blissful puff of glee to reach the vicinity of the target and to be inhaled by the target.
When the target inhaled Lathan's blissful puff of glee, he succumbs to the effect of zzonga for one full hour. He will feel pleasant, content, and utterly devoid of ambition. He will not want to do anything but stay in place and be happy. Should danger present itself, the target must make a Wisdom check at a –4 penalty, to rouse himself to do anything. If he must engage in combat, he does so at a –4 penalty to all attack rolls. If he must cast spells cast spells, he must first make an Intelligence check at –6 penalty for wizards, or a Wisdom check at –4 penalty for cleric, or else miscast the spell.
But as the spell is based on air magic, anything thing that disrupts the flow of air can stop the spell (i.e. a gust of wind spell, submerging one's self underwater, etc.). Creatures which do not breathe air are immune to this spell.
Lathan's Pink Mists into the Demiplane of Happy Dreams
Level: 4
School: Conjuration/Summoning, Elemental Air
Range: 60 yards
Duration: 2 rounds + 1 round/level
Area of Effect: All creatures within a volume of 60 cubic feet
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 4
Saving Throw: Special
Sir Lathan Aendyr improved on his blissful puff of glee spell to affect more creatures with zzonga. With Lathan's pink mists into the demiplane of happy dreams, the caster summons innocent-looking pink clouds of fragrant zzonga which surrounds all creatures within a fixed area chosen by the caster. Each creature must make a saving throw vs. poison at a –4 penalty, or succumb to the pleasurable but detrimental effects of zzonga, as detailed in Lathan's blissful puff of glee. These effects as long as the victims remain exposed to the zzonga mists: A creature walking into the pink mists will succumb to the blissful effects, while a creature removed from the area will be roused (but he won't like it!). Likewise, the mists can also be blown away, magically or mechanically, or the spell can be dispelled by a caster at least the same level as the caster.
This elemental air spell is based on exposure and not inhalation, and in a sense, more powerful than Lathan's blissful puff of glee. Creatures immune to mind-affecting magic (i.e. constructs, undead) are not affected by this spell.
The material component of this spell is one fresh zzonga fruit, which is consumed in the casting.
Lathan's Jarring Wakefulness from Zzonga
Level: 3
School: Enchantment/Charm, Necromancy
Range: Touch
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 round
Saving Throw: None
For all his amassed knowledge and lore on the deleterious drug zzonga, Lathan Aendyr has found no other antidote for the effects of zzonga, save this spell. But as its name suggests, Lathan's jarring wakefulness from zzonga is far from a perfect cure.
By a simple touch, the caster of Lathan's jarring wakefulness from zzonga can rouse his target from the pleasurable but aimless zzonga-induced reverie. In a mere instant, the target experiences all the physical and mental sensations of zzonga that he would otherwise have lived through for days, and thus, the target suffers terrible withdrawal symptoms. There is no save against the spell itself, but the target must make two checks before he can return into normal action. If the target fails a Constitution check at –2 penalty, he feels physically weak and nauseated and cannot act for 1d4 rounds, plus one round for every point missed. If the target fails a Wisdom check at –4 penalty, he feels the whole range of emotions from guilt, confusion, gleefulness, irritation, terror, and a gamut of others for 1d4 rounds, plus one round for every point missed. If the target fails both checks, the effects are cumulative. (A prudent wizard will cast other spells at the target before this time, such as sleep or hold person, to prevent or reduce the untoward effects of zzonga withdrawal.) After the withdrawal period, the target suffers no other permanent effects—expect perhaps a grudge towards the caster for waking him from his zzonga-induced bliss.
This spell has no effect on creatures not affected by zzonga.
The material component of this spell is a leaf, a branch, and a root from the zzonga plant, which are consumed in the casting.
