Spells of Szasza Markovitch

Szasza's Blood of Life

Level: 2

School: Necromancy, Illusion/Phantasm

Range: 0

Duration: 1 hour/level

Area of Effect: The caster

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1

Saving Throw: None

Szasza's blood of life makes an undead caster appear as a normal live creature. Her skin color and body temperature seem to be normal, her breath can be seen on a cold day, and even her pulse can be felt. Szasza's blood of life is a pure illusion, which can be dispelled or seen through normally.

The material component of this spell is a single drop of warm blood from a living creature of the same race.

Every surviving former lover of Lady Szasza Markovitch, Baroness of Vladimirov, promotes the belief that she is not a vampire.

Nikolai's Vampiric Counterpart

Level: 7

School: Necromancy

Range: Touch

Duration: Permanent

Area of Effect: One living human

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 week

Saving Throw: None

Nikolai's vampiric counterpart is a powerful necromantic ritual, devised by Baron Nikolai Markovitch of Vladimirov, that creates a vampire mentally linked to the creator. The caster of this spell must be a vampire, a nosferatu, or velya himself, and must drain the victim dead in the process. Creating the counterpart takes a week, and requires expensive components. One necromancer can have only one vampiric counterpart at a time, and if the counterpart is destroyed, he can create a new one only after a decade.

The vampiric counterpart becomes a full-powered vampire permanently and very strongly charmed to its creator. The necromancer and the counterpart have a permanent two-way mental link, and both can use the other's senses. When touching each other, the necromancer and the counterpart can use each other's spells, and the necromancer can transfer any of his memorized spells to the counterpart. Only three spells can be shared this way at one time.

Baron Nikolai Markovitch prepared this for his daughter, Lady Szasza. Prince Morphail, however, was quicker into transforming her into his pawn.

Szasza's Dozen Ravens

Level: 6

School: Alteration

Range: 0

Duration: 1 day

Area of Effect: Caster

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 round

Saving Throw: None

This spell was discovered by Lady Szasza Markovitch as she was studying for the Third Circle of Witchcraft. The origins of the spell lie deep in the past of the dark ages of Traladara.

When this spell is cast, the wizard's body breaks into twelve pieces which form into a dozen jet-black ravens, all within one round. The caster has full control of each raven and can see and hear everything each raven sees or hears. The caster can't talk or cast spells, but is otherwise fully sentient.

The ravens can travel wherever they can, as long as they are all on the same plane of existence. At any time the caster may choose to materialize at the location of one of the ravens, in which case all the other ravens vanish. The caster suffers no damage even if the ravens are wounded. If all the ravens but one are killed, the caster is forced to materialize in the location of the last raven. A successful dispel magic on any of the birds will end the spell, but in this case the caster may choose where to materialize. The ravens cannot penetrate a protection from evil spell.

Baroness Szasza is not aware of this yet but the spell is not as complete as the ancient Traladaran source. Each time the spell is cast there is a 1 in 20 chance that the caster will be stuck in the raven form (only one) until the spell is dispelled somehow. This may pose no problem to Lady Szasza, as she is a shapeshifting vampire, but this could be dangerous to a mortal caster.

The material component of this spell is one raven feather.

It is said that other members of the Secret Craft of Witchcraft have devised other versions of this spell, which transforms them instead into swans, squirrels or other creatures.

Szasza's Eyes of a Dead Man

Level: 3

School: Necromancy

Range: Gaze

Duration: Varies

Area of Effect: One dead or undead creature

Components: V, S

Casting Time: 4

Saving Throw: Negates

Lady Szasza Markovitch's spell allows the caster gazing to the eyes of a dead body to see the last things the creature saw before dying. She one minute per level of action, but can hear nothing.

This spell can also be used on the undead, who get a saving throw against the spell. The undead creature is also forced to watch his death as the caster sees it, which usually puts them to raging frenzy against the caster, or drives them away horrified. The mindless undead are not affected.

Szasza's Vengeance

Level: 6

School: Necromancy

Range: 30 yards

Duration: Permanent

Area of Effect: One victim

Components: V, S

Casting Time: 1

Saving Throw: None

Szasza's vengeance is a powerful curse that can be only cast by a necromancer who is dying at the time of the casting. The spell requires only a very simple gesture and gaze, so usually even the dying can cast it. As the spell drains caster of his life energies, she can never be brought back to life.

Szasza's vengeance works in three different ways. First, the target of the spell is instantaneously and permanently drained of two levels of experience. Second, three nights after the caster is killed, she comes back as an intelligent specter with all her spell-casting abilities (except Szasza's vengeance), and is completely obsessed with killing the victim. The specter vanishes as the victim dies, but if the victim is drained to zero levels of experience, he turns to a specter himself and is left to haunt the place of his death. Third, until the specter tracking the victim is destroyed, the victim sees nightmares of his death every night, and the lack of sleep gives him –2 modifier to everything he does.
