The Magic of House Fulvina

Spells of House Fulvina

Polymorph to Individual

Level: Varies

School: Alteration

Range: 0

Duration: Varies

Area of Effect: The caster

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 round

Saving Throw: None

Polymorph to individual is actually a template for other spells, each of version which is unique, and allows the caster to transform into the shape of another individual, becoming completely undistinguishable from that individual. These spells are the secret of Fulvina family.

Each version of the polymorph to individual spell must be researched and crafted individually, though they should not be counted against the total number of spells the mage can know for each level.

To complete the spell research, a special material component is required: a body part from of the individual mimicked (nails or hair work perfectly). This component also becomes the material component needed to cast the spell. If the original component for research is lost, the spell can never be cast again, until a new research is completed, with new components.

The level of the spell depends on the nature of the mimicked individual and the duration of the spell. The base level for the spell is third level, for a creature of same race, sex, built and with a duration of 2 turns per level.

For example, in AC 1000, Signor Griseo Fulvina has developed the version of this spell, assume Agostino's appearance, to spy on the younger brother of Prince Innocenti di Malapietra. As Agostino di Malapietra is taller (+1) and heaver in build (+1) than Griseo and the spell was assigned to last a maximum of 4 hours/level (+1), assume Agostino's appearance is a 6th-level spell.

Suppress Magic Aura

Level: 4

School: Alteration, Abjuration

Range: Touch

Duration: 1 day/2 levels

Area of Effect: 1 creature or item

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 2 rounds

Saving Throw: Negates

This spell is designed to suppress any magic aura around the target for the duration of the spell. However, a wizard of higher level than the caster, using detect magic or similar spells has 5% chance per level difference of detecting the aura.

The Fulvinas use this spell to improve their disguises or to protect magic items from those with magical detection. Some of them use this spell to cheat in duels with enchanted weapons (but not anymore for duels held at the Great School where the deception can be discovered quite easily).

This spell is said to have been invented by Orlando Fulvina, when he helped Viscount Luigi Fulvina II keeping his title in magical duel, but it is probably far older.

The material component of this spell is a lump of lead and a piece of skin from a dwarf or hin.

Treasures of House Fulvina

The Medallion of Metamorphosis

Created long ago by a member of House Fulvina, this object is 6 inches in diameter and entirely made of clay. Both sides are engraved with House Fulvina's coat of arms: a fox. The Fulvinas used to give the Medallion to their more trusted spy. Should the pawn have died or should the Medallion have been taken by someone else, the prized item would have teleported to its legitimate owner. However, the Medallion was stolen by Leena Tijlen, who at the time was still the Fulvina's most trusted spy, so the Medallion never returned to the hands of the Fulvinas. All attempts of the Fulvinas to find Leena and the Medallion have so far failed.

When the Medallion of Metamorphosis is grasped and the words "Metamorfosizzami" are uttered, the wearer is able to change her features to that of another person of another race. This metamorphosis does not affect body build or height, nor does it affect mental abilities of the person.

The Medallion also protects its wearer from spells or devices that can detect her disguise, granting a saving throw even when one is not allowed, or a bonus up to +4. The Medallion will also warn the wearer, by vibrating slightly, when someone is trying to penetrate the disguise.

The Medallion does have one flaw. There is a probability that after a long time spent in a different form the wearer will not be able to transform herself in her original form, using the Medallion's magic alone. This chance is 5% cumulative per day in a different form. Authors: Giampaolo Agosta and Giovanni Porpora
