Pieter-Eeuwke Vandehaar, son of Baron Pieter Vandehaar of Oxhill, devised this complex spell, as a private method of communication for the Secret Craft of Fire Elementalism. Generally, this spell was given to only the important members of the Craft (i.e. those of Third Circle or higher), and can only be safely and comfortably cast by such Fire Elementalists, since many of the components of the spell are hot or on fire.

The wizard must first write his message using the ink of the dancing flame on vellum of fiery writing. He must then place the message in one everhot scrolltube of the Fire Wizard and cast this spell. (These magic items are detailed below. Note that only Pieter-Eeuwke knows how to create such items, and Lord Pieter makes a tidy profit of selling these components to fellow members of the Craft.)

With a hot coal in one hand, and the everhot scrolltube of the Fire Wizard in the other hand, the caster summons a fire fundamental, a minor creature from the Elemental Plane of Fire that appears like a pair of fiery bat wings (AC 5, MV Fly 18 (B), HD 1+1, THAC0 19, #AT 1, Dmg 1d6 (ram), SD immune to non-magical weapons, mind-affecting spells, fire attacks, SZ T (2' wingspan), ML 12, XP 175.). The fire fundamental will take the scrolltube and meld with it and carry the message to the intended recipient. When the fundamental reaches its destination, it dissolves back into the Elemental Plane of Fire, and leaves behind a blazing everhot scrolltube of the Fire Wizard.

Destroying the fundamental en route to its destination will also destroy the message. However, the scrolltube can be successfully freed from the fundamental by a successful dispel magic spell.

Ink of the Dancing Flame

This magical fiery red ink was created by Pieter-Eeuwke Vandehaar, and its formula is known only to him. He regularly creates this ink, while his father, Lord Pieter Vandehaar, regularly provides it to members of the Secret Craft of Fire Elementalism—at a handsome profit, of course! The ink only lasts for 6 months, after which it becomes useless (a minor imperfection that Lord Pieter exploits!). During this time, the ink must be kept in a hot environment. Exposure to cold will cause it to cease functioning.

The ink of the dancing flame is stored in metal flasks, with the Vandehaar emblem engraved on it. The ink also comes with a set of quills which have been enchanted to resist fire. Each quill can only be used one, after which it turns to ash. Before using the ink, the flasks should be heated for five minutes in a burning fire to activate the magic of the ink. A single drop of this ink can burn normal paper or parchment, and only a special vellum—the vellum of fiery writing, created by Pieter-Eeuwke, of course—can be used with the ink. The message writing with this ink of the vellum of fiery writing remains visible for only a minute. The ink will then be absorbed by the vellum, making the message invisible.

This ink is a main component of the spell, bind the fiery messenger to your will.

Vellum of Fiery Writing

Pieter-Eeuwke Vandehaar created this special vellum to work in conjunction with the ink of the dancing flame for the bind the fiery messenger to your will spell of the Secret Craft of Fire Elementalism. Unlike the other special components of the spell, Pieter-Eeuwke has shared the formula to create this object, because of the high cost of its main ingredient: red dragon lungs.

The vellum of fiery writing only works with the ink of the dancing flame. Other inks simply evaporate on the vellum. A message written on the vellum using the ink of the dancing flame becomes invisible after a minute of writing. To read the message, the vellum must be placed above a fire for a few seconds. The message will appear as flames dancing on the vellum for about another minute, after which the vellum catches fire and burns away in a few second.

Everhot Scrolltube of the Fire Wizard

This special scrolltube was invented by Pieter-Eeuwke Vandehaar as a component of the complex spell, bind the fiery messenger to your will. Pieter-Eeuwke created one scolltube of this for each important member of the Secret Craft of the Fire Elementalism. The tube is made from redwood with designs carved in using the burning tool spell. The tube is hot to the touch and causes 1 point of fire damage per round if not stored properly. It is enchanted to resist fire, and to be able to meld with a fire fundamental, as necessitated by the bind the fiery messanger to your will spell.
