Spells of Eachainn McDougall

Eachainn's Sabre of Light

Level: 4

School: Alteration

Range: 0

Duration: Five rounds

Area of Effect: A beam of energy of a size of a sword

Components: V, S

Casting Time: 2

Saving Throw: None

Eachainn's sabre of light is a powerful spell for a trained user. The spell creates a weightless red or green energy weapon, which is effectively equivalent to a long sword. Eachainn's sabre of light requires a specific skill to use, but a trained user can even parry with it (If the weapon mastery rules are used, this weapon must be studied as any other weapon). There is a little disadvantage in the Eachainn's sabre of light. It makes a humming noise, which can be easily heard over normal conversation.

It is said that only Lord Eachainn McDougall and Prinz Jaggar von Drachenfels are the only true masters of fencing with the sabres of light.

Eachainn's Armor of Silver

Level: 4

School: Abjuration

Range: 0

Duration: 1 hour

Area of Effect: A suit of plate mail of the caster's size

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 round

Saving Throw: None

This spell creates a magical full plate, which is completely weightless and shines silvery light. The silver armor protects from both magical and mundane attacks. Against weapon attacks the caster has effectively an Armor Class of 0. He also has a +4 modifier to all saving throws vs. spells that make direct physical damage, such as lightning bolt or fireball.

The size of the armor does not fit all. Lord Eachainn McDougall had to take several tries on creating this spell before it fit him perfectly.

The material component of this spell is a polished silver coin.

Eachainn's Sun Dagger

Level: 2

School: Invocation

Range: Touch

Duration: 1d3 rounds

Area of Effect: One dagger or throwing-knife

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: See below

Saving Throw: None

Lord Eachainn McDougall devised this spell after a close and almost fatal encounter with a vampire (believed to be a rogue, unauthorized creation f Boldavian origin, since there has been no comeback from the creature's death). This spell allows the caster to imbue a single weapon with some of the sun's power.

The spell requires both a single gold coin and either a handheld dagger or throwing knife as a focus. The coin must have been exposed to at least one hour of sunlight on the day before the spell is cast. By a function of the Law of Contagion, this enables it to act as the power source for the spell.

During casting, the coin is touched to the blade, causing the weapon to emit a golden light, which illuminates roughly half the area of a standard light spell. This light is rather painful to vampires and lesser nosferatu; the undead suffer –1 to hit and damage rolls while the weapon is visible. Each hit made by the enchanted weapon to a vampire or nosferatu during the spell's duration do an additional 1d4 hp damage, which cannot be regenerated until the undead "sleeps"; it takes that long for the residual sunlight to fade from his body.

A successful strike with an enchanted throwing knife causes 1d4 hp per round after the initial strike, as the target cannot touch the blade to remove it until the spell expires. However if the vampire assumes gaseous form, the blade simply drops away.

A few Glantrian wizards, besides Lord Eachainn McDougall, have been taught this spell, most of whom are his close friends. Knowledge of the spell's existence has made its way to Boldavia, however, earning considerable enmity from Prince Morphail's night-dwelling subjects.
