The Magic of Gerrid Rientha
Spells of Gerrid Rientha
Level: 3
School: Evocation
Range: 50 yards
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: 1 creature
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1
Saving Throw: Half damage
Gerrid's ray of brilliance is a stylish response to the blatant casting of fireballs. It creates a ray of light from a finger of the caster, which strikes a victim inflicting 1d6 points of damage per level of caster. The victim may save vs. spells for halve the damage (which is considered fire damage). The creatures particularly vulnerable to bright light, sunlight or fire must roll the save with a –4 modifier.
Duke John of Hightower recently created a new spell he calls John's Reflective Protection.
Spotlight
Level: 3
School: Alteration
Range: 150 yards
Duration: 1 turn/level
Area of Effect: One field 3 feet in diameter
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 2
Saving Throw: Negates
Spotlight creates a bright ray of light from the sky or ceiling, which illuminates one person clearly. The caster may decide to control the spotlight freely or to lock it onto a person, a place or an object. If the victim fails his saving throw vs. spells, he cannot escape the spotlight even by going underground or by teleporting, unless he leaves the spell range.
The spotlight acts like sunlight against the target creature, except that it never causes damage or destroys any creature, even undead. The caster may control the color and the brightness of the spotlight.
This spell was crafted by Lord Gerrid Rientha for use at the Metropolitan Theatre.
Gerrid's Shadow Steps
Level: 5
School: Alteration, Shadow Magic
Range: 0
Duration: 1 round/level
Area of Effect: All shadows within 100 yards
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 4
Saving Throw: None
With Gerrid's shadow steps, the caster can jump into an area of pitch-dark shadow and emerge out of another shadow within the range. If there is no shadow where the caster tries to go, he emerges from the closest shadow from his target location. He can take the shadow step once in a minute, and it takes a full round to do it.
Lord Gerrid Rientha designed the shadow steps to be used in conjunction with the shroud of shadows spells.
Gerrid's Shroud of Shadows
Level: 6
School: Alteration, Shadow Magic
Range: 0
Duration: 1 round/level
Area of Effect: A sphere around the caster 150 yards in diameter
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 4
Saving Throw: None
With Gerrid's shroud of shadows, the caster has the complete control of light within the area; there is only light where caster wants it to be. If the caster wants to quench the light sources, he can do so completely on all light spells and mundane light sources on the area. The sun, continual light spells, and other strong light sources can be seen, but they shed no light around the source. Gerrid's shroud of shadows also prevents all kinds of infravision. Spells such as detect invisible work only if the caster could see the target, which is obviously impossible in the pitch darkness.
Gerrid's shroud of shadows can be used creatively, as the caster can create whatever forms he wants from the shadows as long as the spell persists. The caster himself can see within the shadowed area. Gerrid's shroud of shadows does not move with the caster.
Treasures of Gerrid Rientha
Lord Gerrid Rientha, once Archduke of Westheath, later Baron of Egorn, is never seen without his trusted walking stick. Although it looks quite ordinary, it radiates a weak aura of magic, which belies its true nature. Lord Gerrid invested a fortune in his cane, to enchant it with many wondrous and powerful spells.
The cane has the following powers:
Inertia, as a rod of inertia, at will.
Ray of brilliance, as per spell, causing 12d6 points of damage, thrice a day.
Spell turning, seven spell levels a day.
Ventriloquism, from the cane's location, thrice a day.
Wraithform, once a day.
The cane can be used by anyone on one condition: the user has to flawlessly recite aloud to the walking stick 20 pages worth of the Glantrian law on theft of magical items, AC 992 edition, followed by another 20 pages worth of the same law, as it was written in Darokin this time, also AC 992 edition. This must be be done only once, and the cane will become attuned to that user. Thus bothersome task has prevented anyone from using the cane, except Lord Gerrid, who himself has no longer any clue as to how the legislations exactly go.
