Spells of Rowan Zarovan

Rowan's Soothing Bath of Cures

Level: 4

School: Enchantment, Alteration, Elemental Water

Range: Touch

Duration: 1 hour/level

Area of Effect: 10 cubic feet of water

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 2 rounds

Saving Throw: None

This spell is a great breakthrough for the wizards of Glantri, who for years have shunned the healing magic of clerics. It was crafted by Rowan Zarovan, the most trusted apprentice of Prince Harald Haaskinz, and has hints of her Darine origins.

Rowan's soothing bath of cures enchants a volume of water to grant it healing properties. When an injured person immerses himself or the injured body part in the magical bath, it instantly cures 1d6 points of damage. Continued immersion in the bath heals 1 point of damage per full hour. Removing the body or body part from the bath disrupts the healing effect, but the person may resume the immersion if the duration of the spell permits.

This spell is more potent when cast by a member of the Secret Craft of Water Elementalism, such that the bath heals an additional 1 point of damage per circle of power of the Water Elementalist (i.e. A bath cast by a 3rd-circle Water Elementalist can heal 4 points of damage per hour.) Rowan's soothing bath of cures also temporarily halts the progression of some diseases and poisons (DM's choice).

The material component for this spell is pristine spring water that has not been touched by any living creature prior to the casting.

It is rumored that Mistress Rowan lovingly prepares a bath daily for Master Harald Haaskinz, to ease the pain of his afflicted arm.

Rowan's Reversal of the Flowing Years

Level: 4

School: Enchantment, Necromancy, Elemental Water

Range: Touch

Duration: 1d6 + 1 hour/level + 1 hour/circle

Area of Effect: 10 cubic feet of water

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 day

Saving Throw: None

It is rumored that the Water Elementalist Rowan Zarovan crafted this youth-restoring spell for the elderly Prince Harald Haaskinz, her mentor and supposed lover. More effective than taking elixirs of youth or potions of longevity, this spell enchants a bath of water to restore the years of a person immersed in it. The bath can restore a maximum number of 1d6 years, plus 1 year per level of the caster. If this spell is cast by a Water Elementalist, the bath becomes more potent and can restore 1 additional year per circle of power of the caster. (Thus, Mistress Rowan a 9th-level wizard and 3rd-circle Water Elementalist can prepare a bath that can restore a maximum of 1d6+12 years).

The target of the youth-restoring effect must be immersed in the magical bath for one complete hour for every year to be restored. He may chose to restore less than the maximum number of years, by simply surfacing from the bath. However, once he leaves, the enchantment on the bath is dispelled.

Mistress Rowan actually patterned this spell from some old notes she found in Prince Harald's library. Unknown to her, those notes belonged to Prince Harald's grandfather, "Mad Konrad" Haaskinz, an utterly depraved necromancer. Although, Mistress Rowan has significantly altered the original necromantic spell (such as replacing the more offensive spell components of a flesh placenta and bones of a stillborn dragon, to the gentle down on a baby's head and the first bloom of primrose), she is unaware that a wicked and malevolent taint still remains.

At the end of the number of years erased by this spell, all those years will suddenly and completely return, as if they were never removed in the first place. The restoration of age is sure to have drastic consequences, exactly what they will be, depends on the age and number of years in question.
