Fantasy Records emitiu dois
elepês da poesia jazzística de Rexroth, Poetry Readings in the Cellar
(with Lawrence Ferlinghetti, 1959) e Poetry and Jazz at the Blackhawk
(1960). [Ambos estão há muito tempo esgotados, mas uma leitura poderosa
de Rexroth de “Thou Shalt Not Kill” (da Cellar) foi recentemente
reeditada pela Howls, Raps & Roars: Recordings from the San Francisco
Poetry Renaissance (Fantasy Records).]
A Sword in a Cloud of Light, uma leitura em fita cassete de 1977
com jazz e acompanhamento de koto-shakuhachi, está disponível em Watershed

O estudo mais compreensivo
de Rexroth foi feito por Morgan Gibson em Revolutionary Rexroth: Poet
of East-West Wisdom (Archon, 1986), que incorpora e reordena substancialmente
o material dos seus primeiros livros, Kenneth Rexroth (Twayne,
1972). Apesar do título Gibson diz relativamente pouco sobre o radicalismo
político e a crítica social de Rexroth; mas a discussão dele sobre poesia
e prosa, com ênfase particular nos seus aspectos orientais, são seguras
e freqüentemente brilhantes. Sua bibliografia aborda um grande número
de outros escritos sobre Rexroth. [Revolutionary Rexroth de Gibson
está esgotado, mas uma versão
ampliada e revisada já está disponível online

O estudo mais detalhado da poesia de Rexroth foi produzido por Donald
Gutierrez em The Holiness of the Real: The Short Verse of Kenneth
Rexroth (Associated University Presses, 1996).]
Kenneth Rexroth de
James Hartzell e Richard Zumwinkle: A Checklist of His Published Writings
(UCLA Library, 1967) é essencial para aqueles que pretendem pesquisar
nas grandes bibliotecas as centenas de artigos produzidos por Rexroth.
(Quase todos eles podem ser encontrados na biblioteca da Universidade
de Califórnia em Berkeley.) Uma bibliografia muito maior está em desenvolvimento,
mas vai demorar ainda vários anos. [No momento parece estar interrompida].
Linda Hamalian completou uma
biografia de Rexroth e prepara uma edição expandida de sua autobiografia
que incorporará Excerpts from a Life e outro material sobre os
anos posteriores. A correspondência de Rexroth com James Laughlin logo
será publicada por Norton. [Estes três livros apareceram em 1991. Infelizmente
a biografia de Hamalian, A
Life of Kenneth Rexroth (Norton, 1991), se revela extremamente
hostil e incompreensível].
Além dos livros esgotados —
que devem ser todos certamente reeditados — existe manuscritos completos
de dois livros que nunca foram integralmente publicados: The Poetry
of Pre-Literate Peoples (uma antologia) e Camping in the Western
Mountains (um guia de viagem dos ano trinta). Lá também pode ser
encontrada uma grande quantidade de material escrito por Rexroth — colunas,
artigos, revisões, introduções, entrevistas, cartas, gravações radiofônicas,
pinturas — muita coisa valorosa que poderia sair em forma de livro. Eu
compilei uma antologia de 200 páginas do Examiner e das colunas
do San Francisco, contudo, ainda não encontrei um editor adequado.
