Den of Wing and Ling and Ielth and Eilth

"Can this place be any nicer?" Wing asked, and someone passing by laughed and shook his head.

"The only way it could get any better," Ling said, "is if the eggs were to hatch."

And just then, they began doing just that. The sisters scampered with the others into the sands, to see that all the beautiful eggs had been clumped together in the middle of the sands, rather than in their neat nice little piles.

This for some reason worried Ling, which in itself did not surprise her more sedate sister. "It'll be okay. The dragons choose their partners, and their eggs are just shells."

"I know... but... they were so organized!"

The hatching started, and proved to have a number of dark-and-light dragons among the births! Neither sister realized what was about to happen when, more toward the end of the hatching, a large egg barreled around the sands. Laughter broke the silence, and the egg wound up rolling right near the Xa girls.

It broke right as they looked at it, and released two greens -- twins of light and dark!

Hi Ling! Hi Wing!
The girls were stunned, but very happy. Ling knelt down to the dark dragoness, and embraced her.

I'm Eilth! Bespoke the cute hatchling.

Her sister drew her hand over the muzzle of the light-green other, as the dragon announced,
I'm Ielth, Wing!
"I can understand this from Dancer and Rogue," the Weyrlingmaster said, gruffly, "but you two? I thought both of you girls had more sense in your heads than this!" He went on and on.

It was true, they had broken the key rule: no betweening as weyrlings. And what had happened? They left and came back... older. They'd actually gotten lost but since their dragons were quite attached, and their new friends from Eden's Gate were rather dominating the pair of greens, they went along and actually had a good time.

But their dragons were now quite a bit older than the rest of the class. And the weyrlingmaster didn't quite know what to do with them. They had only been gone for less than a day his time, but in reality, their time, almost half a year had elapsed. It showed. The dragoness pair as well as their young riders, had matured quite a bit.

Finally, letting out a long, rather disgusted sigh, the weyrling master turned to them and grunted. "You can go. You've obviously learned more being out there on your own, than by our stuffy teaching ways." The way he said that, Rogue must have said something mocking him. That was certain! "The Protectorate will treat you well, at any rate. Since your dragons are grown, I can't really keep you here."

Good! We will enjoy flying again! Ielth bespoke privately. Wing supressed a giggle. Her sister glared at her, when Eilth thought, we were learning from the others, just fine! Why is he angry?

Because he ought to have been the one teaching us, you ninny... was Ling's response. But they said nothing.
"It's just a side effect, they'll be like this as long as they're off their firestone." Said one of Blackstone's riders, of the night and light greens. They were pacing on their ledge, snarling at one another, and generally making their riders feel quite odd.

"But... they've NEVER had firestone. And now they never will need it, right?" Ling asked, and her sister nodded.

"Not here, of course... And we're merchants, not fighters. But ... I didn't realize that their heat would be so... intense." Wing added, leaning against their Den wall. She also didn't realize that the pair were rather making others intense as well. Males were gathering, and the pair of green sisters did not want anything to do with them.

Until the brown and blue who had been around them all the time for their little accidental betweening jaunt arrived.

Then, of course... They were ready to fly.
