This interview was done by Borys who runs the label Agipunk and distribution Tetanus from Italy. Bands with stuff released by Agipunk are, CONTRASTO, DECLINO,OHUZARU, RUIN and more.
1. What first prompted you to start a label?
it was something natural, nothing like "ok, tomorrow I'll start a label". I just started releasing my bands demotapes, then more professional records, then helping friends around, and everyhting got bigger and bigger and serious.
2. What's been you most sold release so far?
Eu's Arse discography Lp, 2500 copies already sold
3. Did you find it hard finding a manufactoring plant/what plant would you recommend?
vinyl pressing plants are very few, we use to press Lp's in Italy and 7"'s in Czech Republic, this one is very popular. As for cd's, there are many plants in italy, prices and reliability are standard, so it's just a matter of choosing one among the others.
4. Have you lost money from distro's, shops, traders, credit card fraud etc Any advice on how to avoid it?
of course, I guess every label/distro has had to deal with rip-offs. It really pisses me off when it happens, the scene is based on mutual trust, only assholes can take profit of it. The other problem is that postal service often fails, it's not always easy recognizing who's the real rip-off! Advices? not many, at least is better checking distro/labels you're dealing with (if you don't know them), looking for infos on the net it's quite simple. Otherwise just trust and prey, hahahah!!!!
5. Do you have many old releases gathering dust under your bed?
some releases got underrated so people cared less about them, but little by little every release (will) get sold out.
6. What distribution would you recommend for a band/label?
we use to deal with many people around, I don't want to say that someone is better than the other and i don't want to forget anyone. If you check our catalogue and look at the labels we distribute you'll see who are the ones we like.
7. Do you use companies outside the 'd.i.y network' to distribute your releases to record shops, is it worth it?
sometimes our releases are carried by some small record shops, often they are more DIY than many label/distros around. Probably we should discuss about the meaning of DIY, it would take very long... anyway, we consider ourselves a DIY label, that's all.
8. Is there anything advise you'd like to add for folks planning to release a piece of vinyl or CD?
just doing the best they can, caring as much as possible of every aspect, sound, graphics and so on.
9. What are the next planned releases for the label?
Jilted/Beyond Description 7", Sonny Corleone 7", Memento Mori 7", Japanese tribute to Amebix Lp, enough stuff!
