Black Seeds Records orginally started in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by Jery. I first got to know Jery, through email/mail where he interviewing bands for the zine (ABC Weapons, Power of Idea). After a while, Jery moved to Dublin, Ireland where he now runs this d-beat/crust label. In and his spare this plays guitar in d-beat band Deconformed ( see live photos here).
So far his released music by Warvictims, Distrust, Skullcrusher, Discover, Nuclear Death Terror and more). http://www.myspace.com/blackseedsrecords

So how long have you been doing Black Seeds as a label/distro? Did you sell stuff mainly in Kuala Lumpur? I've been doing the label since 1996, it began with cooperate label form south Malaysia called Broken Noise Rec. thats still active till today. Then i decided to quit from the label because of different taste of music and the way he produced the stuff. Then i did Black Seeds. Yes mainly my stuff is sell in Kuala Lumpur, but now my sister and my friends helping to send the stuff here. So i can continue my activities.

What do you reckon was the main reason you started label? What's the scene like in Malaysia?
I started the label because i wanted Asian good band to be heard to other parts of the world. There wasn't any crust label at that time that wanted to release any local stuff. I can say Malaysian crust scene is growing to a positive direction every single year. Lots of overseas bands play nowdays especially from Japan.

What made you move to Ireland? Is it harder to release stuff over here with such high costs?
I didn't knew my destiny was Ireland, there were a job interview for chef that my friend recomended then i decide to try. After a year waiting, all the work permit's done then i got my arse here. Yeah i think it is more expensive to released stuff here, luckily my friend from Black Konflick Rec willing to help me to press the stuff.

Do you think the internet has killed d.i.y punk labels, due to downloading?
Not really, but i think the beer factory and the drinking habits killed the DIY punk label thesedays. They spent all their money on booze than supporting the world wide scene that is so called DIY Punk :) Downloading is ok if some of the releases is limited or out of print.

What you think are the most rewarding aspects of doing the label?
I think when i release some stuff i want the stuff out in perfect quality. I mean the cover and the layout must be great. I dont like releasing shit stuff... but i like to realese good shit.. hahah... the reward is that i feel satisfied for all of my releases.

Finally what's planned for the next for the label?
Next plan is to try to release on vinyl format. The format is the hardest to do in Malaysia. Only time will tell. Cheers for the interview!!
