Ogre

I first heard of this band when I bought "Nosebleed" zine issue 1 and they seemed pretty interesting to interview them (in 1991) because I thought they were into satan etc, but I was very wrong. They too like alot of the bands I interviewed broke up but have a really great website up now, where you can download all their releases, lyrics etc. Again sorry about my questions being so crap, but hey you live and learn!

Protest: Is it not more worthwhile singing about animal rights, or taking a stance on something rather than singing about satan?

We don't want to put across any political or activist messages. Satan is a neutral subject and its a bit of a laugh in a predominantly catholic country. You can't take devil shit seriously. Also, it seems alot of people are singing about animal rights etc to impress others and not for the improvement of mankind or the earth.
Only about 1% of the "right-on" people that I've met have been geniune, th erest have been aloof"I'm better than you and I think I'm improving soceity" people. Shouting at somebody about how corrupt "Unilever" are, is just as infuriating as shouting the "glories" of a conservative government. I just don't want to be told what to do by anyone, regardless of the ulitimate outcome. Vegetarians can be quite funny! I have nothing against them, it just seems strange how many people have more respect for cows than for themselves. Every vegetarian I know indulges in at least one harnful vice ie smoking, boozing, drugs. I ask myself, why save the cow if you won't save yourself. The beauty in nature is savage. Animals kill. Its brutal but people try to hide it. Death is as beauiful as life, you can't have one without the other, so make the best of both.
The other ridiculious thing about some vegetarians(not all of them) is that they say things like "would you eat that if you had to kill it yourself". Would they drive if they had to build their own car? Would they be alive if they had to build their own house? DO they grow every thing they eat themselves? Do they make all their own clothes? Are they entirely self sufficent? Sorry! getting carried away. Back to the interview.

How long have ye been together, any recordings?

"Ogre" have been together about 5 months or so, but we have been friends for years. We used to play in "Frost" together, but that broke up cause Greg's mother found our lyrics for our "Gee" demo and she wasn't impressed then Greg copped on and said "you know shes right, it is stupid", and so we fell apart. Needless to say the "gee" demo was very distasteful with an open vagina on the cover, and obscene lyrics for songs with titles such as "commanders of cunt", "Deautsch Flans" and " bestial throg ogre beast" the frost line up was diferant also. Greg sang only and now he plays bass and sings. Mick played guitar and sang and still does. I played guitar, but now I play drums. Thats our basic history and there were various demos over the years, "gee" probaly being the best one

From the lyrics(they seem real "Death" type) do you listen to other bands with these types of lyrics, Slayer, etc?

Slayer are garbage. We don't listen to any of that type of music and wouldn't associate ourselves with metal of any kind. It is music like that , that makes us do what we do as a protest(even though that sounds stupid, this isn't a conscious thing. We do what we do , oblivious to the reason for doing it).

Do you consider yourselves satanists?

No we only pretend to be that ignorant. Sorry if you got that impression.

What do you think of magazines such as "metal forces" and "thrash"?

Not interested, would perfer to read a book or a newspaper. Thats just being polite, infact I detest them, and wouldn't see them fit to wipe my arse. I think the others would agree with me.

Description of music?

Mick says:"darkest, blackest, grind-doom-core". Resently after a gig some guy approached me and said that we made him think of prehistoric times, when ape-man clubbed their prey with blunt instruments and language did not exist, and all was brutal and painful. I'm not sayying he was right or anything I just thinkit was interesting that he thought those things about us, thats all.

Influcences?

No-one, cause we don't listen to our kind of music, although some things from other bands must rub off on us, we're not conicous of them. Thats all I have to say. I'm not happy with what I've written, and would like to say tha those answers were not really the right answers. I'm to tired to find the real ones.
