Pink Turds were a band from Belfast and were very much involved in the warzone collective(Giros). At the time I had heard so much about Giro's but had never been there, so thats why I ended up asking alot of questions about it. Since this interview they released their split with Sedition and broke up. Some years later everything they ever done was released by Rejected records. The interview was done by Crispo their drummer in 1989

Protest: Probably a very common question for ye, but how did warzone (Giro's) start? Who else is involved?

Crispo: Well I wasn't living in Belfast when it started up. As far As I know it all started when a group of people met together with the intention of organising cheap non-rip off gigs. One thing led to another and today we have a centre with a practise room veg. resturunt, food co-op, screen-printing facilities etc. It’s hard to put a number on the amount of people involved. It depends on who contributes. At the moment the centre is getting done up and the cafe has been shut for a few weeks. The unemployment centre next door helped a lot when the centre was being set up. You'd probably have to ask someone who has been involved from the start to get a more detailed answer.

Do you get any trouble from the law or anyone else about the place?

Well recently we've been getting hassle about people dosing off school and underage drinking etc. In the cafe, off parent groups and cops. There was an incident where someone was arrested for underage drinking just outside the centre. This has led us to have a non-alcohol/drug policy in the cafe during the day in fear of the place being shut down. Also we've been warned that a certain health inspeactorhas threaten to close the cafe. That is one of the reasons why the cafe is being done up at the moment.

Will you record with 'In Your Face' records again. If so do you know when?

Haven't a clue! We’re probably going to be doing a split LP with a band from Glasgow called SEDITION. In the next month or 2. It will be on a label set up by a mate Brycey who plays bass for Sedition. "In Your Face" still owe us 20 or so records, so if you’re reading this "Kalv" Please send them over they'll come in handy for money for practising!!!

Was it hard getting all the bands material and recording factilies for the warzone compilation LP?

Well at the start not most bands had to re-record cos the first studio used was really shit and the bloke in it hadn't a clue. Anyway some bands re-recorded elsewhere, but then there was no money to finish the LP. So to date nothing else has been done about it, it would be much appreciated.

How is the hunt sabbing going in Belfast, Have ye had any problems with it?

Theres been a few successful hunt sabs, the end of last year but due to the van being off the road it creates more hassle i.e. hiring out vans etc. I dare say there'll be a few more before the end of the season.

Any plans in the future for coming down to cork, do ye or any other of the Belfast bands got transport for gigging around? Have you played many gigs?

We'd love to come down to Cork. The only problem I could see is getting expenses i.e. money to cover hire of a van etc. Maybe if there was a gig co-enciding with a gig in Dublin it would workout ok. We had a van for the centre but there isn't enough money to insure it or put it through the P.S.v. as funds are at an all time low. Boo hoo sob sob. We've played a good few gigs but not lately.

Do you want to say anything about anyone or anything?

No cos my hands in bits after answering all these questions Anyway good luck with the zine, fuck the system A.C.A.B. and Zig and Zag for presidency. Crispo.
