Plague Bearer are great label where everything it releases I love! A friend of mine Ken was over at the K-town festival and afterwards was telling me about this label. And that it was just pure crust and d beat, sounds fantastic; pure d.i.y. So after looking a bit more into it and sussing how the various bands on the label I had to check it out. Bands on the label include Disclose, Scumbrigade, Skitkids, URO, Martydod, Nuclear Death Terror and loads more. Thanks goes to Jakob, the person behind the label who answered the interview.

1. What first prompted you to start a label?
I had been doing a distro for some years. Starting out by just getting more copies of the stuff I wanted for myself to give to friends and then slowly but surely getting in over my head... Not much happened in Copenhagen at the time (late 90's) - in terms of bands, zines, records being released etc. and we though that we should help change that - and do our part of helping the local scene get into gears.
I started my 2nd label (Plague Bearer) because I wanted to put out stuff that I knew my partner in KNP wouldn't be into - since we always agree on stuff we put out together!

2. What's been you most sold release so far?
On Kick N Punch - the first Amdi Petersens Arme 7" and the No Hope For The Kids lp. On Plague Bearer - pretty much everything has been pressed in 1000 copies only - some less though.

3. Did you find it hard finding a manufactoring plant/what plant would you recommend?
We've tried out a bunch of different ones over the years - but are now more or less only doing stuff with Duophonic in Germany. They have great quality vinyl, are fast & friendly, fairly cheap and professional!

4. Have you lost money from distro's, shops, traders, credit card fraud etc Any advice on how to avoid it?
We have had some bad experiences with labels/trades - being ripped off a few times - but nothing that we're losing any sleep over.
Trade in small quantities if you are unsure about the person/label you're dealing with. We don’t really do credit cards at all - so I can't really give any advice there...

5. Do you have many old releases gathering dust under your bed?
Not really. We do fairly small pressings to avoid just that!

6. What distribution would you recommend for a band/label?
I would recommend doing as much as possible by yourself! To remain in control as far as possible in the process. Start your own distribution and trade with other bands/labels - or work with friends/people you trust.

7. Do you use companies outside the 'd.i.y network' to distribute your releases to record shops, is it worth it?
We do sell some stuff directly to stores mainly in Japan - but that's only because they are owned by the punks there and the DIY network works a bit different there. We don't really deal through companies if we can help it otherwise.

8. Is there any advise you'd like to add for folks planning to release a piece of vinyl or CD?
Don't rush anything. Never do stuff you're not 100% happy with. Start out with ambition - but be realistic...rather positively surprised than burned out/let down...DO IT YOURSELF!!!!

9. What are the next planned releases for the label?
Kick N Punch - Hjertestop 7", Asbest 7", Gorilla Angreb 12", Skitkids 7" + more Plague Bearer - Disclose/Cruelty 7", Mareridt/Peaceful Collaps 7", Visions Of War 7", Scumbrigade lp repress + more
